I'm not sure about the rate, but I believe parry blocks 20% dmg.

Parry's always been a static 20%. As for the rates, it actually varies job-by-job from what I understand; I don't have hard numbers on my person but I've heard Paladins have lower innate parry chance because of their shields.

Actually every job has its parry rates determined by their parry VALUE (354 base at lvl 60, 364 base at lvl 70). So every job has the same parry rate at beginning, if you don't include any other effects.

Base parry rate seems around 10%

PLD don't actually have a lower parry rate, their block is just added in.
Damage recieved has a priority system like this:
    1. Is it crit hit recieved?
If not: 2. Did you block?
If not: 3. Did you parry?

So the system checks if you block FIRST, then parry, that's why it just APPEARS as they have a lower parry rate, yet their base parry rate is the same.

This may be stupid, but couldn't they just have changed parry to a blocking stat? PLD blocks with their shield, WAR and DRK would block by parrying. They both would function the same and the new blocking stat would affect rate and percent blocked.

What's weird now is that it is invisible. They should just add a parry value on weapons like shields have.

Clearly, DRK and WAR would have the most, followed by Paladin, then the melee DPS.

I believe in 2.xx STR effected Parry for a time as well.

actually it was Dexterity wich affected the strengh of the parry - a stat wich tanks don't even have. they changed it later to the fixed 20%.

so the parry rate is 10%? thanks ^^

STR affected Parry strength and DEX affected Parry rate. Got removed in 3.0, though, so doesn't really matter anymore.

It would be nice if they resurrected STR=parry strength and then added a parry value to weapons.

in 2.x parry strength scaled with STR, they removed that in late 2.x but i remember getting to parry strengths of like 40% or so in a full str tank. DEX also increased parry rate albeit with horrible scaling on tanks, bards would parry almost every attack but only for like 15% or so.
