Why are you still playing?

I have kept playing up until now because I kept hoping that the next patch would finally give me that FF feeling and bring enough content that would keep me interested and enjoying my time in game for a long time. I also waited patiently for each to patch to bring the many promised changes I had been hoping for - some arrived, others I am still waiting for. Some of changes have been very nice, others have let me down badly, especially the partially replaced crafting system and the incredibly boring and outdated levequests , as well as the lack of any changes to the linkshell system.

All of my friends have already quit, and most of my linkshell is gone too. I want this game to succeed and I do plan to come back after more changes have been made. While it is still free to play, then I am happy to log on once in a while and craft a bit or check out any new changes or holiday activities. I am not spending enough time in game anymore to merit paying for it, however, so although I do like parts of FFXIV, I'll be gone once the billing starts.

MMOs good or bad are like crack.

Some people just can't put them down, no matter how bad they know it is they just can't resist trying it again only to be struck down by the cold hard reality that they don't enjoy the game yet.

Some people just plain enjoy the game but feel there needs to be a few key changes to make it ideal for them.

Some people just want to get a rise out of people and are sustaining themselves on the sweet tears of avid defenders of the game. These people will starve and die for the most part once the game asks them for the money they don't have, I'm sure a few will shell out some cash to continue creating lols.

Funny thing is people complain and say they cant wait for jan 6th because all the "trolls" will be gone. I bought $40 worth of crysta 15 months ago. I dont have to go anywhere for a long time even if i dont keep playing. I doubt i am the only one who did that either.

I was leveling PUG the other day in a pick up party and I was having a lot of fun. I hit 43 on MIN today and while it was less fun, I really felt a sense of accomplishment when I did it. That's why I play because I'm still enjoying the game on some level. Could it be better? Of course, but MOST games could. Is it fun and rewarding? For me, yeah it is. That's why I'm still playing.

i liked the game, but after 1.20, i couldn't log any more, 1.20 destroyed lots of things i liked before, it made it feel like.......... empty.

Why are you still playing?

The people I play with would be the main reason, and I would say that I think the game has huge potential and has since launch. Based on what I have read in the Dev interviews a lot of what I saw as potential is going to be implemented in V2 or shortly thereafter. I genuinely think that SE can turn this into a great game, and I don't hang on every single update between now and V2 as the end all be all final update that will make the game perfect. Until them I am leveling crafts, and doing the story stuff that they are removing from the game in V2. Micah I've seen you around Mysidia, so I am sure you can understand why I say 'the people are the reason' at the start.

Because this game would go to hell if it only got positive feedback, but it's not like SE is listening unless it's for something stupid as dyes.

I've seen them implement a lot more than that. Dyes were simply the first time they have actually credited player feedback in a forum post. Dyes were also probably simple to implement at this stage unlike the total world zone redesign which is based heavily on player feedback and which they are weaving the pre/post-V2 story around in order to make sense out of. I've never heard of a game developer doing something like that before have you? Player housing is also going to contain a lot of things that players said they wanted. I recall reading that they want to let crafter's emboss free company coat of arms on players armor, and I suggested that at one point. Maybe others did too before me idk, but I'm still pleased they listened to one of us and added a good idea to the list of updates.

You make an excellent point that the redesign is at least partly the product of constructive negative feedback coupled with constructive player suggestions on how to improve it. The point is it was constructive and not the 'wah, I hate this! SE sucks! Quit now while you still can!!!' stuff I see in so many posts. Like anyone bothers to put that on the desk of someone who can do something about the state of the game. At best those posts become a statistic: "Yoshida-san 10 people said they hate your work 50 times this week...."

Just please don't say they only listed to dyes. For those who have been posting constructive suggestions you're weaving something of yourself into this game, and that's as good a reason to stay to see how it turns out as any.

Yes stupid things again. People are screaming for playable group content. PLAYABLE GROUP CONTENT! Stop with the with sidecrap, the holydays, the fashion, quests that only make us walk all over the zones for nothing, reforming UIs so much that you're basically throwing babies out with the bathwater. SE needs to stop being an ADHD kid and focus on more PLAYABLE GROUP CONTENT!. More moogles!

People are playing this game right now, not because of the game, sorry but no, but because of the community bonds they created and if they can't maintain those bonds by being able to go and wreck havoc upon the world, they will leave if they haven't already.
