New Player's thoughts on Titan-Egi and his tanking.

So after rejoining the game with the jump potions I noticed I had no seals so I decided to grab titan-egi and go on a magical adventure to fate grind and learn my job's buttons and get enough seals to get the GC rank necessary to turn in dungeon gear for seals.

First off, Enmity generation is on point. If I start off with diversion in a fight and go crazy Titan never loses hate, however that only applies until he inevitably dies. After exploring and moving about I reached the lvl 40+ areas of ARR, and I started going through two or three titan egi's a FATE. Any mob comparable to my level and in a group of more than two were tearing titan apart like tissue paper. Large FATE monsters would eat like three or four titans as well. THe only way I was able to solo FATES past 40 was resummoning at critical HP, Lucid Dreaming, Diversion, Rouse, and spamming Drain to keep myself alive until Titan could take hate. It worked, but I had alot of close calls and my DPS had to completely stop for a long time every about every 2 minutes on a larger enemy FATE (Thank goodness it was two munutes because Titan couldn't tear the monster off me without Lucid and Diversion!) and this issue only seems to get worse as I go higher and higher in FATE levels.

If you don't want to give Summoner a useable Physick, please consider giving sustain back. Without a way to sustain our titan we can't effectively solo stuff. If you for whatever reason you don't want to give us Sustain, then consider adding sustain to Titan's abilities. Possibly under Earthen Ward so that it recovers HP while taking less damage every two minutes. As it stands there's little use to this skill since egi take less damage from AoE and it's really only Auto-Attacks and direct weapnskills/spells killing them.

Please do something because it is hard doing stuff by myself without a working tank.

They removed the only way to heal your pet (sustain) in 4.0 so until they add it back in or figure out another way to keep your pet's health up, titan's in a bad spot for open world stuff.

Q11. Sustain was very useful in some content. I would like to know why this was removed.

A11. We had it set so that pets would take reduced damage from enemies and we figured it wouldn’t be an issue as long as players don’t place the pets directly in front of the enemy. However, there were some players that used it quite a lot, so we would like to discuss some more with the dev. team.

Pretty much shame on us for using titan-egi! LOLOLOLOLOL

Or Ilfrit for that matter. I mean where would a melee pet be on the periphery looking good?

I stopped using my Summoner when in open world because the pets just die all the time. Totally pointless.

I went through 3 Titan-egi fighting a StormBlood B-class target off my hunt board. It's actually easier to get the SCH fairy out and heal-tank the mob myself.

Without sustain, SMN in open world is a joke.

Step into my mind... there are terrors here which you cannot imagine.

When attempting to solo a FATE boss as Summoner as of 4.0, my strategy has been to let Titan-egi handle tanking until its inevitable death, then summon Titan-egi once again. Let Titan-egi hit the FATE boss a few times, then walk out of the FATE area. Your personal enmity will reset as a result of moving too far away, but the FATE itself will not reset because Titan-egi will still hold enmity. Just be careful about roaming too far away. From there you can reengage and repeat those steps as many times as necessary to complete the FATE.

Personally I would still like to see Sustain brought back, at least for Summoner, so that a "workaround" approach like the one I described isn't necessary.

How to keep Sustain dead and have SMN come out on top:
    • Rouse now heals your pet to full HP.
    • Chocobos can target their owner's pet and heal them. They will not attempt to heal other party member's pets.

SMN no longer has to add an extra slot nor spend a gcd on healing, chocobo sees more use and Rouse, something you will often be doing off the ogcd, will top your pet off. Later, when you learn summon Bahamut, you pet will return with full HP, on top of rouse.

I suggest using your chocobo companion and Garuda / Ifrit for now... Titan's in a bad spot.
