I dunno about changing class at the press of a button. Maybe changing jobs at the press of a button (Gladiator shifting into Paladin).

The battle pace keep getting slower and slower every patch and it cater even less to solo play. Maybe this is SE way of implementing a time sink.
1.20 is an overkill with almost no AOE, bad dmg output (even with "almight" combos), slow TP build, 3k TP skills and long CD. Plus what really bothers me is that they took out most of the useful skills to be re-introduced - I assume - by the "new jobs"
I can honestly say that 1.20 took the fun and excitement of battle out of the game for me.
I loved playing the magic classes and how it was clear one was elemental and the other was light/dark. I also liked how I didn't have to use certain abilities.... but now THM is more elementally inclined than CNJ, which is so weird for me and ruins it. They also took out most of the abilities which was also weird...
Honestly, I had intended to pay for FFXIV and continue playing because I thought the DoMs were fun and my kind of thing but I won't be doing that now. If they're going to mess things up now, they could at least promise us that it will be fixed next patch. For now, we can only assume it will be fixed, and I'm not going to P2P a game so I can be prepared for a fix that I can only assume will happen. I understand THM is stronger now, however it's just not stronger in a way I agree with. I also like what they did with the DoWs but I don't play them so...
So I won't be paying until I know what their plan is for jobs.
AND WHY WAS WATER TAKEN OUT?
Just ARC zerge til 1.21... Atleast it's fun.
Combos or not the battles are slow xD
battle is slow and boring. game is slow and boring if you have 1k post and you call this guy a troll, your the troll he will be gone along with the other half of the ingame population that has does not troll these forums like you losers.
I have been leveling up my low level classes since patch and having much more fun in parties than I did in .19.. I'm getting a sense of old XI nostalgia as well! I'm loving every second![]()
I enjoy the current system, Combos added a lot for me. Running around combo'ing on my PGL was a blast, especially doing the Pounce > Sucker Punch back to side combo solo.
Yup, 1.20 was definitely the nail in the coffin for me. While I like the caster changes, melee combat is broken. The battle pace keep getting slower and slower every patch and it cater even less to solo play. Maybe this is SE way of implementing a time sink.

Ironically, I made a very long post about this in a similar thread about my husband's impressions of the new combat system. I'll quote the most relevant parts:
My husband hasn't been very happy with the game, but one of the only things he thought was fun was combat, especially on his PGL. Now that's no longer fun, either. We got into combat, and he was immediately frustrated. He said that he must need to set up his action bar, they must all be his old abilities, because almost all of them were greyed out. I told him no, all the abilities were overhauled in 1.20, they're his new abilities. When we got out of combat I came over to his computer and looked at them with him, we were both shocked to find that every single offensive combat ability was TP dependent. The only ones he could use off the bat were buffs. So, we tried combat again, and the fact that he had to stand still, watch, and do nothing while his character auto-attacked and built TP before he could take any action, completely sucked any fun he had out of combat for him.
He said before the battle system was actually fun. He went on to say that if the game had been released this way, he would have put it down after five minutes and never played it again.
Neither one of us is against auto-attack. Far from it. I hated that melee just spammed the 1 key all day. And I hated before that, as a CNJ, I was expected to spirit dart like a melee. I've actually been happy with the caster changes. I think casters were fixed. But the melee... well, lots of other games have auto-attack and still give you plenty of other active abilities to jump into combat with right off the bat. Making everything dependent upon TP use makes for a waiting game. :/
Why are there not at least a couple smaller melee abilities that can be used while you're building TP? I'm not asking for mindless button mashing, but to stand there and do nothing is boring. Casters don't wait on TP abilities, we can actively participate right off the bat. Like the OP has stated, melee have no feeling of action in combat.
Combat for melee is slow to start, and boring. And jobs won't change that, considering you don't unlock them until level 30. You can't expect people to wait for 30 levels to start enjoying their class. I don't think it'll make a difference, anyway.
Yoshi-P said this was the patch we were to try out and make our decision whether or not to pay a subscription. Well, it's definitely made me decide not to pay.

Yeah FFXIII's (I think FFXIII-2's battle system is similar) isn't dull at all! spam the auto thing while using the shoulder buttons to mode switch? I attempted to replay FFXIII the other day because I love the story but I couldn't because the combat just felt so dull. They look sort of flashy but there isn't really a lot of subtance there.
As for battles being slower...think the fact we can chain 2-3 WS off of 1k TP thanks to combos makes it seem a bit more lively. Added to the fact combos need certain criteria fullfilled in order to be executed makes me feel like I'm taking a much more active role during combat.
