Pet jobs have always been a problem to balance in FFXI, either OP or terrible, depending on updates.
Better have Dancer as new tank job, it was very good in FFXI and very versatile (dps tank healer party-buffs, depending on events).
Could be easily used in FFXIV as tank ...
Wait was BST confirmed or something?
Design-wise, XI's BST was a horrible mess between the devs' fear of pet jobs, the fact that BST for a time relied on field mobs (which stat-wise were ridiculously strong compared to player characters), and the fact it had literally nothing to offer a party. The bad PR (the prima guide spreading misinformation that having a BST in party had an EXP penalty on the whole party instead of just the BST themselves) did not help at all.
I agree, but BST can also work if designed appropriately.Dancer as new tank job

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
No, it really isn't easily used. It can't wear existing tank gear and thus creates a major itemization issue. Not to mention its not a popular job archetype. There are vocal people who want it, but from the get-go it's a very niche thing and they need to be picking something that has more widespread appeal.
I would not be surprised if dancer never gets added to the game, there's honestly little reason to add it when we get plenty of dance emotes all the time. They've never even mentioned it as ever being in the running for consideration for being added to the game.
BST wearing heavy armor doesn't make much more sense if you wanna talk about itemization ...
Was talking ability wise anyway, DNC makes much more sense as a tank than BST if you refer to FFXI : Saber Dance / Fan Dance are definitely easy to use as the tank's stances (was kinda the case in XI anyway), and a lot of the job's abilities would be a nice addition to XIV (sambas, etc).
There's so much more to DNC than ... dance emotes >_>
While BST would add ... what ? A reskinned Titan Egi that would tank for you while you use axe skills and feed him with Zeta biscuits ?
What a thrill ...
Dancing in heavy plate armor......... That'd be hilarious but impractical
If they do add bst, I hope they give you the ability to capture and train your own pets.
"Fun comes first. If it isn't fun, you're doing it wrong." -Naoki Yoshida
Except that it does? Many times BST has been depicted in heavier armor, and the idea of a wild beast tamer wearing heavy furs and bone armor is entirely in-line with their visual identity.
Armor such as this would be completely fitting for Beastmaster and can definitely fall under the category of Fending.
Name a single Job that was in FFXI that plays the same or has the exact same abilities as it does in FFXIV. If you want FFXI's dancers, go play FFXI. If dancer ever gets added to 14 it will be nothing like it was in XI so your example is entirely pointless. Was talking ability wise anyway, DNC makes much more sense as a tank than BST if you refer to FFXI
Hilarious you dismiss Beastmaster as being incapable of anything unique yet sing Dancer's praises as being rife with opportunity. You clearly show a lack of creativity if you think that's the case. I can think of a simple concept alone that would make a Beastmaster tank leagues more interesting than Dancer could ever be, and that's the notion of a mounted Tank. A fighter who does battle while atop a powerful beast. It's a common fantasy trope but one that would be incredibly unique within the makeup of the game's existing jobs. While BST would add ... what ? A reskinned Titan Egi that would tank for you while you use axe skills and feed him with Zeta biscuits ?

No, I'm saying take the idea of the sentinel class from XIII and make it into a new job.
Also I can't be the only one who's not at all interested in the idea of blue mage/beastmaster for a tank unless it was like this:

*edit I got ninja'd.
Also I really like the idea of dancer for a tank though. It'd be a really fluid class with probably some really cool animations and a emphasis more on team buffs maybe. That'd be quite different and cool.
