I like your ideal Marxam but i think have beastmaster is service better be dps jobs use your system except number 2.

I think issue with your ideal is that hp and mp shouldn't connected to you. they pet should have seperate hp not connected your hp or mana instead beastmaster mp and use of skills of pets could use your mana pools. the issue is away been fonds pet jobs player form for they pets. this reason i against beastmaster be a tank job because players like they furry friend of pet it also kind abuse the pets in because one pets this why i suggest puppetmaster instead

Yoshi P state he like do like ffxi at some point my point doing dps is because is remove one part make pet turn on you in ffxi is kind frustating.

Let not steal ideal for rift it not really a very fun game and horrible ideal for beastmaster

    In that case...

I think they will never truely be a trinity break job this one many reason we should desire for one melee/dps prefer beast master and one pet tank job preferable puppetmaster

you ideal would work for puppetmaster

I can imagine a BST tank in XIV meta something like so

1hander with a morning star main-hand, a off-hand padded cesti (like.. not a shield exactly, a monk weapon that covers the forearm - like some do), essentially a shield.

Charm 1 is their tank stance, Charm 2 is their DPS stance.

With a Charm I, a pet is summoned and 25% of the damage inflicted on the BST is redirected to that pet. The pet has an HP bar but cannot be healed by anyone other than the BST.

    this your ideal

BST also has Command abilities that increase the percent of damage the pet will take (increase it from 25% to 45% [Rampart], increase it to 65% [Sentinel]).

Instead of waiting on Cooldown timers for defense moves like ShadowWall/Vengeance/Sentinel with DRK/WAR/PLD, the pet's HP bar acts as a pseudo recast for defense CDs. If you leave up BST's 'Sentinel' for too long, the pet could die or abandon you.

Also there are Loyalty stacks built under Charm 1, Feral stacks built under Charm 2. This incentives BST not to let their pet die also, as stacks are lost (similiar gauge mechanics of PLD/WAR).

The pet's HP being a sort of resource the BST can tap into, but throttle up the Pet's portion of damage intake for too long and he bails, he takes too much damage, he dies.. BST pulling a bit from DRK who uses MP to throttle productivity, but with BST it's based around the pet's HP. Of course BST still has traditional mitigation and role skills too to alleviate pressure off the pet mechanic. I think that would be a good resource mechanic for a pet tank job.

I have tried tanking in dungeons where the Tank left for one reason or another as my SMN. I understand what is being discussed is a job geared and focused at Tanking as opposed to a DPS job that can only offer limited tanking. However be that as it may, i feel it was by and far not only very chaotic, unreliable, and very frustrating, but also time consuming and next to impossible to adjust to group dynamics. Everything from marking targets, to having to communicate intent of actions had to be addressed. The run was slow going and aoe dodging was simply not an option. In the end the healer was having to work over time healing my pet as well as themselves between skill use. Mind you this taking in to account player skill (or lack there of).

Perhaps squadrons is a testing ground for an A.I Tank, but if the current offering is any indication, i do not believe a pet Tank is viable atm.

Undoubtedly AI is not currently in a position to allow for a satisfying tanking pet. Of course, a "pet(-based) tank" may or not center itself around that.

I'd love to see AI develop to a point where a satisfying tanking pet (beyond merely solo content) would be possible, but it's a long way off and would likely require more than just a pet tank concept to remotely warrant the development time required. Perhaps when squadrons, chocobos, and enemy mob UI are all improved upon to a point where open world group-to-group combat is often scarcely recognizable by today's standards...
