    Earning large amount of Gil

Hello everyone! I was hoping to get some tips on making gil, lmao. I'm on Mateus and I began leveling my miner class. However I'm still confused as to which items to sell. Do I go about it by checking the market board by seeing what items are out more or do I look for items that aren't there and sell those?
I hope to receive some good advice and thank you!

I keep forgetting to do this, but not only do you check prices, but you also check the sale history for how often the item sells. If it doesn't sell that often, then it will take forever to move. Also as a side note, if you see mats or other items selling for below NPC vendor value, just buy them all up and sell them to the NPC vendor for profit :P

An item that sells 1000 times a day for 5k is worth more then one that sells once a week for 5 mil. You want volume of sales, frequency of sales, limited competition, and a good selling price - in roughly that order. Frequency(how often people buy) is nice, but high volume(how many they buy at a time) is king. If Crafter A(these numbers are of course made up to illustrate a point) needs to buy 99 ore once per week, and 3 gemstones twice per day then the ore is probly what you want to sell them if you had to choose one(99 per week rather then 42). As for competition, you dont need to find a market with none - you just dont want to end up being the 30th person selling an item that only 29 people need to buy. And then price is self explanatory - if it takes the same effort to gather something that sells for 500 or 5000, then all things being equal you would migrate to the 5000 one.

So putting this together? As a miner, look at the materials you can gather. Ores, gems, some powders, etc. Look at the ones below your level(what you can easily get now), and the ones from the next few levels above you(getable but more work). Search the market board, look at how many are for sale, what price theyre at, and then check history. It only shows the last 25ish sales, so how far back does that go? Months? Hours? And finally, notice what people have actually paid versus what the current rate is. Once you look at a few items, you should be able to identify a couple target markets to try working(diversity certainly doesnt hurt). And once you know what you want to sell im sure i dont need to tell you how to proceed. Keep checking periodically as you level up to see which new items you can gather are worth pursuing hardest, and to make sure the markets youre already in still work for you.

and keep in mind that the market board is kind of a backwards auction. people will likely buy the cheapest item, wich is always on top of the list (even when they have to pay 1000 gil for the taxes only to pay 10 gil less for the product - no, it doesn't make sense), so you have to check prices often (once ever 1-2 hours is fine) and adjust. if you want to sell items fast you have to undercut often for a few gil, just to stay on top of the list. the faster you sell an item the more items you can put on the market, since you only have 20 slots per retainer, space matters.
an item sitting there for a week for 10k gil is worth nothing. you could have used that slot to actually sell something. higher priced items obviously can stay longer on your retainer without losing potential money.

also check what the items you gather are actually used for: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/db/
it's worth to put stacks in quantities on the market wich can be used for exactly one craft. if a crafter needs 3 ore for one craft, then put 3 ore in one stack on the market. or 6, 9, 12... you get the idea.
you also can put 4 or 5 into one stack, when there are no smaller quantities. the crafter will be forced to buy more than he needs, so you will get more money. but don't overdo it, nobody wants to buy a stack of 20 items when he only needs 3...

small stacks sell fast, and usually for more money / item. but you have to replace the sold items often. some people like to buy bigger stacks, so you can put a few on the market too.

Level your crafters, Level 50 Crafters can make Glamour prisms which make some gil here and there [depending on your own server of course and how populated it may be] Leatherworking is always a high demand Prism.
Retainer Ventures,Dailies and also when selling and crafting watch the Market board and see what you can sell fast/for a lot. Make sure to watch something that seems to be bought a lot [Look at sale history tab]
Those are my tips I'm not the richest but I ain't the poorest either.

Could things I have done in past to make money. Crafted items, or gathered items that people need/want. Best idea is check MB, then look at how often it sells. Compare prices with NQ and HQ. Make or gather said items and place in MB. If it sells quickly, either raise price or list more then 1 on MB. Make sure your retainers are full selling items. I used to make sure all retainers were full upon logging in, and again before I log off. On occasion maybe full during time playing if a good amount sold. After awhile you'll notice what sells well and what doesn't, and what people want. Don't oversaturate market with one item either. And HQ always sells for substantially more.

Also with the new patch, the Canals of Ulnar (Treasure hunting) dungeons have hit, and just popping open chests can net you quite a bit of change as well. Grabbing those maps while leveling your gathering classes is a great way to have fun with your battle classes and make money to boot ^^

It all starts with mining and botany. It took me about an hour to gather up some mats to make ingots yesterday for making collectables and saved myself about 500K in the process. It's not always about making a ton of Gil when you have the means to gather all the mats for yourself. Just a thought lol

The problem with the market boards is usually by the time you see something sells well it's to late because everyone else has likely already seen it. and has the same ideas you do.

the trick is to look forwards not back.
an older trick fo example there's sites around that tell you the gc provisioning item flow and predict quite well what tomorrows items will be. at various levels. which can give you a head start tomorrows item might be electrum ore. go grab a load of hq and list them in quantities of 10 and they used to sell pretty well.

in heavensward timing your sales around scripts also helped a lot. selling hardsilver ore on a Monday or Tuesday for example woulndt be worth much. but Wednesday night. could triple the price and sell 3 times as many as the reset drew closer and a lot of crafters were in a last minute rush to cap scripts before reset and would thus pay a premium to ensure they get done.. often meant they'd sell well Thursday mornings as well as crafters would cap out soon as reset happened to get it done and out the way...

looking forwards though. it's a pretty safe bet that as soon as shirogane opens up the value of indoor and especially outdoor furninshings and in turn the materials used to make them are going to increase a lot. as you'll have a whole lot more people trying to furninsh there new houses. where at the minute that stuff never sells because players cant get a plot to put them in.. thus driving the price down a lot.

another tip is simply sell in clever quantiies. don't sell 99 logs for example. sell 10 stacks of 10 or something like that. takes 4 pine logs to make a lumber. but many carpenter items might need 2-3 of those lumbers. so sell your logs in stacks of 8 or 12 and you'll shift them that much faster than stacks of 99. miner stuff is the same.

many crafters including myself. though I haven't touched it since 4.0 yet. simply won't buy materials because they're sold in ridiculous stack sizes. if I need 5 ores to make an ingot. i'll often pay 5k each for a stack of 5 ores. but I wont buy a stack of 99 even if theyre only 500g each..
