It is not a 100% drop?! Damned.
I have yet to successfully beat Ifrit once and I will have to farm plenty of SUCCESSFUL battles?! Looks like more than 200 hours for the majority of us. ;_;

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
The original post talks about getting 10 totems for 1 weapon, as they drop to you and you keep them.. In the process, you may get weapon drops as they go, as they are not mutually exclusive. I'm merely pointing out that it's statistics. I'm 6/7 and I've done this fight more than 100 times (I think ^^7 Ifrit's weapons in 2 hours, boy have I been humbled.
Ninja edit: I may have confused you as the OP says 200 hours for 1 weapon. The post you quoted however was simply a statement of at what point in the chase for all weapons one starts being bored with the overall process.. If I get a totem, you can damn well be sure I'm going to pass it along to my party members who need it, cutting on their time.

This is how I feel, too. I'm 6/7 weapons out of sheer luck, missing the one weapon I wanted the most of course, and I really don't want to take any Inferno totems because if I do get it that's wasted totems, but there's also no guarantee that I will have my efforts pay off in any reasonable amount of time otherwise. If the totems were going to have the same drop rate as the weapons but require 10 of them they might as well just have had weapons drop more often. With that being said... The totems are near worthless there is a about a 2/7 chance that the person you are giving the tokens to will get the weapon they want in the time it takes for them to collect the tokens and then they will have gone to waste, and I guarantee this is going to happen. Someone somewhere is going to be on their 19th token and then the weapon they REALLY wanted will drop and they caused someone else to lose out on getting the weapon they wanted because everyone has to start all over again to try and collect 20 tokens for the next person in line. The system is absolutely ridiculous.
The randomness is pointless.. they could have kept it a grind but made it 5% weapon 95% totem (or whatever percent)and require more totems. Then you at least no what you are working towards. Random on this kind of stuff is plain lame.

It's the absurdity of the system that people don't understand when they say anyone who complains is whining. My LS beat ifrit before the patch hundreds of times. There are people in my LS with all weapons except for their main and there are people like me who have how many ifrit weapons? NONE. Yep. 0. Amazing right? All the time I've watched people drop their 4/5/6th duplicated weapon becuase they can't pass it.
I'm not that beat up about not having any weapons becuase frankly that's not what I play the game for, but the absurdity of this decision is certainly not lost on me. Totems are near enough worthless which is a shame.
There's a difference between 'hard' and 'completely Twelve-damned retarded', guys. I know that can be hard to process!
100% drop rate on the Totems is extreme, but so is the current drop rate, whatever it is. There's a problem, stemming from bad design on SE's part; Totems aren't a solution to the problem, and some people are overreacting - big deal, I'd be overreacting, too, if I were doing the Ifrit/Mog fights regularly. This is completely absurd, it makes some of XI's most questionable drop rates look positively lenient, and borders on the deliberately sadistic. This isn't a good way to get people to have good will about your game in the interim between now and a rerelease, which is more important than making sure people keep grinding your content literally until the next patch can hit. I'm actively not interested in doing these fights more than a couple of times, as it is, even with a group who'd focus-fire their totems on one person at a time.
Edit: My implication of course being that most groups that do this fight aren't going to focus-fire their totems on one person! Which, I think, is a safe assumption. If totems were anything close to a 100% drop, they'd have to be untradeable as well; I prefer tradeable totems to untradeable totems, but the current drop rate sounds far too low.![]()

7UP!

Guess this is the wrong venue for me to say I went 1/1 on Moogle for my main class weapon.
The point is, most people DON'T WANT SEVEN WEAPONS they want 1, maybe 2 to use on their main classes. Fact is ifrit weaps are insanely common and not hard to get and there are plenty of people going around with 6 or 7 weapons. The point is, If you want SEVEN OF THE STRONGEST WEAPONS IN THE GAME, that *should* take some work. That's how MMOs work. Heck, even in a regular final fantasy some rarer drops take some work.
What people wanted fixing was the issue where you could get a bunch of weapons and not have the one you wanted still, this is what they have failed to fix. Frankly it's dumb as fuck that so many people are walking around with 4-7 of the strongest weapons in the game.
Do you remember how it will feel, cold grinding grizzly bear jaws hot on your heels. - Jim Morrison

I completely agree that the drop rates for totems should be increased. I just disagree with people wanting for it to be a guaranteed drop or anything near that.
I also think SE should scrap this system and make it like Dzemael Darkhold, and maybe add a few extra consolation prizes other than Dark Matter (potions, gil, etc)

Well said Murugan. Totally agreed.Give us back a REAL LOOT LIST with messages in the logs, and weapons able to be passed to people.
It is not hard. The old team did it, this team did it in darkhold. Your experiment in "personal loot lists" failed, admit it and give us back control over our loot. This is an absolute staple of MMO's and as you work to get FFXIV "up to snuff" in comparison with other major MMO's on the market this is one area where you took two giant steps backwards.![]()
Despite me loving most of this Patch 1.20's improvements, your point was my #1 problem that I hope they fix. Original post here:

I really hope they fix this soon.
