    I can replicate this when I go by myself in a dead area and just heal myself all by myself. It's not about having a lot of people and is therefore not a good excuse.
    And honestly why are you so against them looking into this? Worst that happens is they decide not to bother fixing it.

    It's a bug that punishes people that successfully, but just barely, dodged an attack. It rewarding some other players by allowing them to pre-move (which can also be a curse if someone actually wanted to interrupt their own cast at the last second) doesn't change that it punishes others who played as the game told them to.

    OP isn't talking about ping he's talking about how everything is server side whereas most MMOs are client side, meaning games like WoW, TERA, SwToR etc, your inputs are based off your own ping whereas FFXIV you're at the mercy of their servers where using abilities like Rescue have a delay when they should be instantaneous.

    Same goes for boss moves like Titans line moves/AoEs, threat generation if someone pulls and you pull threat back it isn't a quick snap, the mobs have to turn around, target you, and then run at you, even after playing the game for years I find it annoying still but I can look past it but there's days it absolutely frustrates me.

    I'm assuming people having this problem probably have above average ping. The only time I've ever been hit by a telegraphed aoe or mechanic was due to me screwing up. I've never had issues with avoiding aoes or messing up mechanics due to some kind of latency spike or lag. It seems this is a case by case basis solely dependant on how high your ping is. It sucks but what can you do? :/

    At worst you should see 0.5s, don't forget the reaction time and all.
    Never had hit by an AoE that I was sure I avoided since EU server are in EU. Even on ultimate I can move right before the end of the cast and if I "abuse" the server tick, a bit after.
    Everything about battle is server side, when you know that and your ping you can do everything without trouble.

    btw there is the animation for some skills (player or monster) that aren't sync with the mark on ground. You can be hit by an AoE even if you were out before the mark was gone, simply because it was a skill more based on the animation of the boss. See the cast or mark as a indication that tell you the next move or the size of the AoE. If you didn't have those indication you'll probably avoid them more easily after learning how they works.

    FF isn't a game about reaction, but learning what's happen next.

    try sniping with Mei =]

    .. or playing any "twitch" game from somewhere that's always at least 2k miles from any data center. =[ I gave up on titan extreme when it first came out because my states delay is just too bad to play. Wasn't able to pass it till they softened it up a little and moved the data center.

    Not sure if there's a list of which skills use this method, but it certainly could explain it.
