WASD movement is not jump intuitive. You can only do jump puzzles with an analog control stick.

Just to climb the mountain in the Golden Saucer you have to find the 'right spot' just to get on it in the first place, and then to jump accross things you have to back up a little and then jump forward because the game's jumping is a fixed action.

Likewise with the "rescue from the goblins" minigame in the other part of the Golden Saucer, that again has you jumping while avoiding bombs. You can't actually just jump and run, you have to stop and jump.

Eh...? I play on mouse and keyboard and I've made it to the top of the tower twice...

And because doing the Bomb Dance off the edge is funny...

I know people on controllers that can't do it... For the GS GATE, I literally race through both versions of Cliffhanger now...

That's not a problem with wasd it's a problem with xiv's janky movement system. Plenty of games allow you to adjust your trajectory in air and their jumping feels organic and fluid. Try playing gw2 or wildstar for jumping done right.

Yar. If they're going to add more jump puzzles, they need to complement it with a better movement system. I like jump puzzles, but not when I'm struggling with a barely controllable character and the "puzzle" is guessing what invisible hitbox extension to land on.

The Keyboard is not an analog controller. The Mouse is.

An analog controller you can direct how far and how fast you want to go into the jump. The keyboard only lets you "jump" with 100% momentum. Literately Keyboard jumps are identical to NES/SNES era jumps in Mario games, where you control your landing by leaning into or against the amount of airtime you get from the jump.

FFXIV's jumps are not that, they are just one jump of a single momentum, you jump the same distance regardless you are standing or running, and can neither lean in or against your landing. I don't know of any PC game that lets you jump in 3D space the same way of a mario game. Those that offer some kind of mario-ness to them are typically console game ports and are best played with a controller since they were designed around it.

I've not played Mario games tbh, but both WildStar and GW2 let you adjust your jump as you are jumping. WS even has double-jumping
