So Kugane may be 8 miles away and ships only move at 1mph or perhaps realisticly they are close enough to still face the same part of the star, hence they are the same time, which was the point I was making.
We can go Game Theorist on this, as we have a means to measure it. Set-down skills, like Asylum, have a radius using a measurement particular in the game that is similar to a measurement in real life. If someone were bored enough, or interested enough, they could figure out a rough minimal size of Hydaelyn.

Think of ET as Hydalyn's equivalent of UTC or Universal Time. When you start to work with things on a planetary basis, having a single clock is much easier than 24~ time zones.

Just think of it as always showing local time. Boom, problem solved

This is essentially how they explained it. Lorewise you're seeing the local time for the region that you're in. For gameplay reasons they don't offset them the way they normally would be.

You willing to pay 3k, 4k, 5k per teleport?

Will you be footing my teleport bill as well?

I'm curious as to why you think it shouldn't be a cap? I really want to hear if there's a good, solid, logical reason behind having us pay a bunch of gil instead of letting gameplay trump lore in this case for the sake of the players.

Because it's not to scale. If Kugane to Limsa Lominsa was 999, and they really are far away, then we're all overpaying for these 200-700g teleports between Limsa Lominsa and Gridania/Ishgard

If they lore-wise want to tell us that Kugane and Limsa Lominsa are far away then it should be reflected by NOT being able to teleport between the two, or the cost reflecting the distance. I'm willing to just ignore this out of hand because you can just buy Aetheryte Ticket (assuming you don't accidentally waste them by canceling the teleport, why is this still a thing?) or you can be smart about it and set your free home point to one of the Eorzea cities and set your return point to Kugane (or wherever you are as you progress in the storyline) and not even worry about the cost.

It would not surprise me if someone has done this. But none of the maps are really laid out in a way that would allow this to work since the "loading tunnels" that transition between areas technically exist, even if we just cross the zone and appear on the other side.

The time it takes you to get from Eorzea to Kugane is enough to offset the difference.

I'd rather not pay any more for teleports than we do already, thanks.

The explanation given was it's no different than your phones adjusting to time as you moved across different time zones, but you'll always see your local time.

Eh, sometimes you have to suspend your sense of science in video games when the reality of it all would be too cumbersome. It'd be awful to have to count time zoned when waiting for gathering nodes and stuff.

The initial idea was for timezones, but the current system is better for gatherers, even it it doesn't make sense.
