Question was asked in a live letter before the expansion. Yoshida said that in the lore eorzea and doma are in a different time zone but it is more convenient to use the same time everywhere in game. It's like the invisible borders, it's not because you're magically stopped that it mean no one can go further than that.

You could also ask why everyone speaks the same language. x) (I know that we can understand everyone thanks to the Echo but we have others with us that dont have it and they still understand them) But its probably better to just ignore such things and chalk it up to being a game.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

I'm curious as to why you think it shouldn't be a cap? I really want to hear if there's a good, solid, logical reason behind having us pay a bunch of gil instead of letting gameplay trump lore in this case for the sake of the players.
Because it's not to scale. If Kugane to Limsa Lominsa was 999, and they really are far away, then we're all overpaying for these 200-700g teleports between Limsa Lominsa and Gridania/Ishgard

If they lore-wise want to tell us that Kugane and Limsa Lominsa are far away then it should be reflected by NOT being able to teleport between the two, or the cost reflecting the distance. I'm willing to just ignore this out of hand because you can just buy Aetheryte Ticket (assuming you don't accidentally waste them by canceling the teleport, why is this still a thing?) or you can be smart about it and set your free home point to one of the Eorzea cities and set your return point to Kugane (or wherever you are as you progress in the storyline) and not even worry about the cost.

It would not surprise me if someone has done this. But none of the maps are really laid out in a way that would allow this to work since the "loading tunnels" that transition between areas technically exist, even if we just cross the zone and appear on the other side.

Orrrrr you can just write this off as an acceptable break from in-universe reality for the sake of a more pleasant gameplay experience, like literally everyone else except you seems to have done already.

It's just a gameplay abstraction meant to handwave-away details that aren't particularly useful for gameplay.

I mean consider: In your average play session how much time passes in Eorzea. How many times has character pooped?

I don't see why they don't just change the skybox cycle. It's nice not like it changes gameplay since classes dependent on the game time can still use the clock since its called "eorzea time.". :T
In this game filled with lots of wonderful tiny details, this oversight is really disappointing.

Bear in mind that, while we're crossing a whole continent right now, it's quite likely that in future expansions we'll be traveling to the lands between. If there was a big skybox difference between Eorzea and Othard, once we started tooling around these middle areas we'd need to see a gradient of these extremes - and that just starts to get way complicated. Additionally, Eorzea time or not, a lot of players are going to be confused when it's dark out at 10am, or whatever. It's easy to see why SE just decided to handwave the whole issue. If you like, just pretend that the whole transport process actually takes several hours and is not instant - that could account for the time difference.

On the topic of whether the planet is a round body that orbits the sun - it's been pretty well established that it's a round body. Whether it's orbiting a sun, though, or whether it has a tiny, hot sun orbiting it instead, is less clear. We can probably assume that it's orbiting a huge star unless we learn otherwise.

This is just a fictional world. The in game tkime is just useful for in game content that help players. It is pointless trying to look for a lore to explain why a fake city timezone is the same with another -_-.

Imagine the strangeness of arranging hunt pulls at 11am only for it to be pitch black, and for the NPCs to be shuffling around in the dark in the middle of the afternoon but wide awake with bustling markets at midnight. Time zones suck. I'll take fun and simplicity over slavish dedication to realism, thanks.
