The night sky moves (I think) so that means the planet is not stationary. Should it really be night in Eorzea at the same time it's night in Kugane? Is there a lore explanation for this?

Mew!
It's more of a gameplay reason than lore, so as to provide a consistent and accurate time of the day in-game for stuff like gathering node spawn time for example.
Clearly Eorzea is flat, and not a planet in the sense we understand it![]()
To be entirely fair the world as it's been revealed to us isn't all there is if I understand the lore correctly. I think it's kinda akin to the Elderscrolls map where Tamriel is but one giant continent with several even larger land masses off in the distance. Granted it probably is a gameplay versus immersion oversight.
Vanadiel had the same anomaly.
More obvious answer, they aren't that far away. Teleports are only 999, Gridania to Limsa Lominsa is only about 500g, therefor Kugane is twice the distance from Gridania as Limsa Lominsa.
That said, as I said in another thread, when talking about continents, we're talking about a continent the size of Manhattan.
Think of ET as Hydalyn's equivalent of UTC or Universal Time. When you start to work with things on a planetary basis, having a single clock is much easier than 24~ time zones.
Same reason that it was like that in Quon/Mindartia, Aht Urhgan, and Adoulin despite also being far enough apart to justify timezones.
Simplicity.
You do realize 999 is just a cap and isn't really indicative of the actual distance between the points, right? It otherwise shouldn't cost exactly the same to teleport from the old world to Kugane/Ruby Sea/Azim unless they were all actually the exact same location, but it does because of the cap in place.More obvious answer, they aren't that far away. Teleports are only 999, Gridania to Limsa Lominsa is only about 500g, therefor Kugane is twice the distance from Gridania as Limsa Lominsa.

Only in the strictest game sense. There's reasons lore describes places in games as huge and unending, yet we as players can cross them in under an hour flat. Game design necessitates that landmasses be shrunk, especially if the game isn't taking the SWTOR method of cutting out chunks of planets for various theme park areas. In actuality the continents are much, much larger - but imagine the tedium of trying to cross zones that would actually reflect that.More obvious answer, they aren't that far away.
