How Would Viera Fit In XIVs lore?

If they were to be exactly like their XII counterparts, they'd be like Gridanians. Viera have a spiritual connection to nature. Unless they are to be placed in a new zone, deeper into the black shroud, I don't see how it's going to work. Though, it's not unreasonable to think that there wouldn't be nature worshippers elsewhere, especially due to the fact that Viera, and Gridania have two major differences. Viera connect to a being similar to the concept or Gaia, which is known as "the green", and Gridanians speak to the elementals. Maybe they'd be placed in a forest somewhere else, but this theme could theoretically clash. The other problem is the extreme lack of males, which parralels to the Miqote. Miqote tribes tend to have more females than men, but not always. Logically speaking I think Yoshi P, and his team have to do Viera one or more of the three ways. 1. They just keep the lore similar, and add a new forest. Likely a jungle version of the shroud. 2. They just make new lore for them. 3. Males and females are equal in number. 4. They are equal in gender ratio for players, but not all Viera civilizations are. 5. They go with the Feol Viera, and have the wood lore omitted, or of ancient origin. Anyway, it's pretty likely that the developers will cave into Viera. People aren't letting it go, and they keep bringing it up. How would you like your Viera?

It's the most requested race. It's obvious, especially with Dalmasca coming in the future.

XIV had an official race poll, and Viera won. Every week or so, a new Viera thread pops up. There are giant forum posts of Viera threads. Yoshi P is constantly addressing questions about them. It is the most requested race.

1) The poll to which you are referring was for "Mammalian demi-beastman", not Viera (though Viera was an example). And it was closely followed by "Mixed race", such as half elezen, half hyur.

2) Forums are not a valid metric or evidence for any claims. They are by their very nature self-select, which is far more than enough to cause crippling sampling error just on it's own, not to even mention method of sampling.

3) Hyperbole. Yoshi-P is not "constantly addressing" question about them.

The poll never asked "Do you want Viera?" The poll asked "What type of race or clan would you most like to see added in the future? Mammalian demi-beastmen (ex. a rabbit-eared race such as the Viera from FFXII, etc.)" It is not Square Enix's fault that people have no reading comprehension, nor cannot use Google well enough to dredge up the correct information and realize they are spreading misinformation. Examples are not a "do you want this?" They are a comparison for something they already have in mind.

Looking over the poll again, I also just realized this myself. The final question doesn't ask player characters, only simply asking what types of races or clans would players like to see added along with all the values in which each region felt upon the choices. We will be seeing Viera in Return to Ivalice. We have the Lupin for mammalian beastmen, the kojin for reptilian beastmen, the au ra for reptilian demi-beastmen and Hilda? (jeeze I already forgot her name) from the Heavensward MSQ for more mixed races.

Well.. Considering YP stepped into the public space to talk about Viera shortly before HW released... It seems silly to say it's not a highly requested feature.. Not to mention the many polls.. including this one.

The Au Ra obviously started out as Viera in concepts before the Dragon-like aspects became prevalant. There was a phase between Viera and Au Ra that was more beast (see the Lupin) but my guess is the reason why these were rejected earlier was due to the feet.

If you play any Au Ra female character, they have heels. Even barefoot.

My guess is that if they ever do the "return the Ivalice" 24-man raid, they may have their excuse to put Viera in. Even if not a playable race.

That said, the over-arching game plot is that this world is one of several, and the quickest way to put them in, directly is that they are on a continent that we haven't seen yet, and that the first one we see in the game will likely be one we find somewhere that the Eorzeans haven't been to in centuries.
