Why do people DDoS a game?

So you're saying that if a lone script kiddie managed to take down one of the most popular MMOs nowadays and cause butthurt amongst hundreds of thousands of players, they WOULDN'T make a twitter account with some edgy name just to brag about how easy it was to stop a weeb catgirl game? I find that much less likely than SE managed to screw up hardcore during the move and is struggling to cover it up by claiming it's a malevolent DDOS when, in fact, they just didn't expect the normal expac playerbase to be so large.

Well, they got data about pre-orders AND subscriptions. This isn't the 90s. They can get a report on that whenever they want. Plus, they actually moved servers because the previous ones were at it's limit. So your point makes no sense at all. It's a DDoS.

This doesn't feel like a DDOS attack. Feels like XIV Servers can't handle themselves. Insult to injury where they decided to move NA servers to the other side of the map at the same time as an expansion. Recipe for disaster if you ask me.

Or SE identified a profile for the incoming DDOS packets and blocked them at their perimeter.

Are they contracted by competitors to disrupt service? If so, then that's more than a little illegal. Yeah, I know. Good luck enforcing that law.

Is it for S&G? Surely there are better targets out there than an MMO.

honestly? most of them are kids who got the program to do it. It doesn't take a lot to do it...just guts. Because it's easily traceable.

The reason why they don't get caught? Because most companies don't wish to pursue over seas legal battles.

If I complained like that, i wouldnt play it. Why play something you hate? It's honestly a serious question. If I hated a product that much i wouldn't involve myself in it.

Thing is, they have been open and honest to us before in regards to when their servers were having issues, why lie now? Also to note that other major MMO's like Guild Wars 2 has been dealing with the same issue lately from what I have been told. I don't think they are targeting FFXIV in particular, but whatever is considered a major MMO title.
