Why do people DDoS a game?

I vaguely remember reading something about kids basically being psychopaths up to a certain age due to their brains not being fully developed. Not sure if true or BS but it makes sense to me.

So you're saying that if a lone script kiddie managed to take down one of the most popular MMOs nowadays and cause butthurt amongst hundreds of thousands of players, they WOULDN'T make a twitter account with some edgy name just to brag about how easy it was to stop a weeb catgirl game? I find that much less likely than SE managed to screw up hardcore during the move and is struggling to cover it up by claiming it's a malevolent DDOS when, in fact, they just didn't expect the normal expac playerbase to be so large.

If it was the unexpectedly large playerbase for the expansion, it would have been all day every day on the weekends, where it didnt happen at all, at least this past weekend, and not at 3PM EDT on a workday.

That's actually true, animals innately have no sense of morality and, being small animals with underdeveloped brains, children must learn to act civilized. It's why most kid will immediately lie if they're caught doing something wrong, if their parents haven't firmly taught them that the punishment for bad behavior is worse than the pain of not having that candy bar they wanted to walk out of the store with.

Clearly you don't know DDoS attacks if you think identifying the culprit is a sure thing.

I dunno it's been a week. Clearly not even SE can Tank properly. No defensive CD's. For shame. ^_^p

Though why only the NA servers? Seems if some one was annoyed they would go after all servers all data centers. Part of me thinks it is the servers cause if you are really pissed at something, you are equal opportunity to the full game and data centers. Or at least that is how I would see it.
This is annoying on many levels as I went from Behemoth to Yojimbo on the Gaia dc and it was really nice over there. I came back as my friends on this server wanted me to come back. Now this mess. Honestly considering moving back over to a JP server permanently. The down side, small English speaking group and that is the only language I speak. As for ping, my ping barely went up between the NA dc and being over on the JP dc.

Not psychopaths, sociopaths. Slightly different. People aren't born with any sense of right from wrong or any kind of morality, they are social constructs that have to be taught before a person can really function in society. Still, this is in relation to small children, by the time they reach school age their parents/families should have at least begun to ingrain them with basic social behaviors. I really doubt anyone capable of running a DDoS would fall into this category unless they were a clinical sociopath, which is a whole other ball of wax.

It felt like a DDoS to me as it was still a major issue on NA servers to break past Raubahn Extreme and Pipin Savage for a few days longer than on the other data centers.

SE's forced bottle neck was to get people to step back and do other tasks verses spamming the NPC. It worked.

But it took 3 days longer to suddenly ease up on NA servers? I mean you can claim "Balmung and Gil hurrdurr" all you want, but it was the exact same in Primal.
