    Mage Division

I just read the patch details and the division for the spells really makes me wonder.

So did they really divide the elements between the mage classes..?
Where's the sense in that, the THM being the one who draws his/her powers from "innate energies within their soul" (or something like that) and can cast ice, fire and thunder and the one who draws energy from "the powers of the nature surrounding them" can not conjure a simple lightning strike or a lonely snowflake..? Can they at least make it rain, or what...

I just think - if they actually divided it like that, I might have gotten it wrong (?) - that seems rather random. Why not [dark/light/enfeebling/enhancing/heal] and [elements/elemental enfeebling/elemental enhancing/(heal?)]

Darkness and Light is, no doubt, to be drawn from ones soul and the forces of nature are harnessed in its elements (all of them...), aren't they...

Anyway, I thought that makes them even less distinct than they have been before. I understand they want to get away from white and black magic but they should at least stick to their magic disciplines they devised as a basis.

(And my Conjurer was specialised in ice and thunder... *sigh*)

Fans demanded a seperation into a healer and an offensive caster, and SE had no choice but to follow. Just imagine what the outcry would have been if they didn't give the elementals to the offense caster, especially now that they painted themself into a corner with the impending Jobs.

    I'll miss my dark/light spells ...

the above should not be taken seriously under any circumstances.

It's great the way it works now.

CNJ can nuke and heal, and THM can nuke. I don't see why the spell division is as bad as people are making it seem. It's fun the way it turned out and I'm glad I can actually nuke and not just heal as a THM.

As for the other spells that went missing, a new class/job will most likely harness the missing ones.

I honestly believe it comes down to one thing: jobs. They gave Fire, Ice and Thunder elements to THM to facilitate Black Mage. I don't think there is any other reasoning behind it. Take a look at the original Black Mage and you'll see they nuke with Fire, Ice, and Thunder elements.

Current lore be damned, they had to do it for the Black Mage.

Not to mention Wind, Earth, and Water (in the future, most likely) for Conjurer makes a whole lot more sense than them getting Fire and Ice of all things.

How so? Why is one element more suited for Conjurer than another?

Because Wind, Water, and Earth make more sense for a class whose root are based in the forest and the balance of nature.

You could argue Ice but definitely not fire or lightning.
