Was very suprised. I asked why they would give these to me...and they did not answer. Are these valuable.

Only way to really know, based on how the markets differ per server, is find a market board, and use the search function to find those items.

They're basically fashion items -- you (probably) won't be using them for their stats, as there are far better options at their levels that are easily acquired. That being said, in terms of gil value, the Endless Expanse Codex might go for quite a bit. Not sure about the gloves, but you can always check the marketboard and see how those things have been selling.

Those are pretty nice things to be randomly given for free, I'd say.

They can be. Although mainly used as glamour gear nowadays, both items can give you a leg up when RNG or the Market Board are unkind. Or you can sell both pieces for some much needed gil if you ever get in a rut.

All in all, your benefactor was quite generous.

By the way, that's one thing I LOVE about this community. For every story you hear about some jerk, there's twenty untold stories of generosity and helpfulness.

Maybe, someday when you're 60th level, you can pass along a few blues to another beginning character.
