While I agree with your counterpoint here and felt the same way as you after it was explained to the player later, this was exactly his intent of not telling you anything about it. It would've been better if we only had to use it once on her and then go from there.

Except that although she was aware that the device could create problems for her, you were not aware of how or why it did it, so she could not skim that knowledge from your mind. Also, the heat of battle is a poor place to have leaps of cognitive brilliance for someone such as Fordola. Once her blood was up, she was simply a super reactive, hyped up version of herself.
