    Scholar Excog question?

    Hey,

I have been running my scholar through Omega and other content and it is largely fine though I get it needs a bit of tweaking. Fey Union boy! oh boy does it take the fairy ages to tether and as soon as tank dodges an aoe and them boom its useless.

My question is around Excog.... I get it keeps tanks health about 50% for 30 seconds but does it actually have a limited number of healing output.. so tank <50% does it aim to get tank above 50% and then fall off? I dont quite get how it cancels itself prior to timer finishing... Any ideas?

Some times it seems to dance around 50% and below a few times and stays up for 30 seconds. I am not sure i get it tbh

excog is a 30 second buff that you place on a party member.
if this party member drops below 50% HP while the buff is active, the person instantly gets a heal with 650 potency (can not crit) and the buff gets removed.
if the person is already below 50% HP when you give them the buff the heal activates instantly.
if the target does not drop below 50% HP before the buff runs out, nothing happens.

Oddly enough I've noticed a few...inconsistencies with the skill. I've seen people take attacks they wouldn't normally survive with it on. I don't know if the heal is throwing itself in there while their health is going down or what. It's really noticeable when a tank died to a tank buster despite being topped off without it, but it was added to them in the same circumstances (this includes what buffs are on them) they somehow survived it.

I use it on str accessory tanks in ex primals because i don't trust them, other than that i'd rather just risk it and lustrate if i have to (and i kinda don't trust co-healers to recognise the buff either and not immediately BOLESHIELDCOBENEFIC2CRIT)

I've been using it on troublesome DPS who have a hard time dodging. Or if the tank is below 50% as a 50+ Lustrate.

I can see it being actually relatively useful in V3.0. There are a few opportunities where you know someone will take massive damage, and you can drop it on them before that happens (think The Game).

But unless excog prevents death lustrate does the same thing??? Only situation I see it being good is if you cohealer is dead, tank buster is coming out and you need to raise someone. Excog, adlo, union on tank then raise your dead friends. Otherwise if it's just to heal, I'd rather use lustrate as the chance to crit makes it a better tool to heal with.

Omega V1 for example, chuck it on the MT when Charbylidis is happening. No need to worry about the tank. Get an AoE ready.

I think Excog could use a few small tweaks, but I think for what it is it has lots of uses. It's more reliable than Lustrate if you know the tank is going to drop down passed 50% for certain.
I chuck it on the tank when they are mass pulling, when a tank buster is gonna happen, when there is dank AoE dmg coming out and I need to have that 100% focused, when the DPS are dead and you need to raise people but need to keep the tank alive, when you have a DPS and a tank targetted for a mechanic and you want to focus on the tank, chuck it on the DPS.

You know the times where Lustrates go off but the tank still dies? Using Excog in that situation would have saved them.

That's the thing about SCH I find, all of our skills aren't 100% used every fight. That doesn't make them useless. We have something for every situation except mass AoE going on over and over. Hell, Dissapitation, I haven't used it since level 62. But I still like to hold it for an oh shit button worst case scenario.

It's main purpose is from the level 68 trait. If you still have 3 AF stacks and are approaching 30s left on your AF CD, you want to get rid of them to make use of the 20% proc. Assuming there's very light damage going out you can just ED 3 times, but if you know there will be damage coming soon you might as well Excog and "stock" that healing.

Playing around a 20% proc chance might seem silly, but it's all about efficiency, getting a quickened aetherflow proc at 3 sec left on your AF CD is just a big waste.
