How would the playerbase feel about buying a housing plot from the MogStation?

Adding more housing plots shouldn't cost us more money - it should be a core feature of our subscription (as a premiere selling feature of the game)...they already have ripped out so many potential items from the game and thrown it in the Mog Station. They have the nerve to charge for additional storage in a subscription game - no more nonsense please. If you want them to sell plots - might as well just go full on F2P. I think what really made me a bit perturbed is when Yoshi P said something to the effect of "very few people use the additional retainer feature so no need to add additional free retainers." I mean, yeah, that just means people don't think they should have to pay for it not that they don't want it or wouldn't use it...

Well, I mean, IDEALLY, this is what should happen:

Every time there is a major patch, new housing wards get added. Not just to the original 3 (soon to be 4) starting locations, but elsewhere as well. Coerthas, Dravanian Hinterlands (I was so certain Sharlayan style housing was going to come - I mean look at all that land!), Azim Steppe, Sea of Clouds to name a few areas. This would allow the greatest flexibility in letting people live where they want to live, and include FCs and individual housing together (since that seems to be the way of it).

This way, servers can grow to accommodate new players, and players can eventually have housing wherever they want without fear that some people are going to buy up a whole ward. It won't matter if they do because there would be enough for everyone.

I'm guessing Instanced housing in FFXIV can't work for some technical reason - otherwise they would've done it, and we just got a brand spanking new data center. I'd be interested to know if YoshiP plans on addressing the long-standing housing issue in the live letter. But there absolutely must be some data-based reason why more housing hasn't been added yet. It really seems like these servers are made of tissue paper sometimes, they're so fragile.

They just need to knock on the door to the office next to them and ask Dragon Quest X how they do it. I know it's a fraction of the playerbase, but I was able to get a house within my first month of playing. There is a huge list of wards upon wards that you can choose when entering the area.

yep it was in one of the more recent Live Letters before the expansion came out when they were talking about the storage expansion.

So the way it is now as a new player just coming to the game. I will never be able to own a house. Is this right. If they are a finite resource that is in the world itself instead of an instance. There are surely not enough of them to go around. This makes me unhappy.

You should be able to find an apartment. For the actual houses, if the owner (for personal) or fc members (for fc) don't enter a house within 45 days then it gets demolished and the plot comes up for grabs. If someone transfers servers when they still own a plot it will also go up for grabs. You just have to check the ward listings now and then on the hour and you should see one up for sale eventually (it'll show a white price tag next to the plot number).

That would be a huge NO for my vote. . Not everyone can afford paying extra.
It would be much better to simply not allow people to have more than one house per server or per account. Opening up housing to individuals was a bad move. They should have houses be for fcs and apartments for individuals.

As a lot of players have been playing for years without getting a shot at getting a house (myself included) and as it is the cause for a lot of grief in the playerbase.

Why not make it possible to buy a housing plot from the MogStation?

Note: I'm not suggesting that people paying real life cash would get the existing plots, but that the funds coming from people purchasing a plot from the Mogstation could pay back the cost of making more wards and more server space and eventually overturn a good profit for SE.

I know it's more complicated than that, but why not capitalize on something that is in high demand? We don't mind paying for an in game wedding, why not an in game house?

Because that makes it P2W (Pay to Win), and we should avoid giving SE permission to do P2W. The further it adapts freemium wallet-gouging, the less fun it is to play the game when other people just buy the top prize.

Do also realize that if they did this, it would be a "rental" system like the retainers, not a one-time thing. There are more resources tied up in housing than there is in game play resources.
