I agree with the analysis, TBN is awesome, but it musn't need to means that the rest of our defense kit should be as gutted as it is right now.
Well, I'm for a little up in duration of the TBN shield by one or two sec because of server tics, even if it means we should be upping the cd to 20sec. But another defensive CD to fluff the AA damage is so much needed. My first Susano Runs, I was so affraid seeing I couldn't take the TB only with TBN, meaning I couldn't "waste" a CD in between two TB contrary to what I could do as a Paladin. And Susano AA still hurt. I'm a bit "used to it" now, but it's still feels very bad.
I mean, on the subject of painful auto attacks, wasn't that the whole thing argument against vitality accessories?
You only need health for the tank buster because all the auto attacks hit like noodles.
Granted, vitality doesn't make you take -less damage- but Tenacity does, and it's found on Vitality accessories. A high health cushion combined with a moderate 'always on' damage reduction leads towards higher eHP, which is how you deal with a constant intake of damage. Cooldowns jump that eHP up when you need it (Tankbusters) but the in between phase is where the high baseline eHP will help.
DA+DM being occasionally numerically better doesn't change the fact that you're still out 2400 mana with no bonus BG to show for it. The margin is too thin to make a DPS loss worth it.
The point is that TBN+DM will cost you a fraction of the resources while providing similar if not better mitigation, thus rendering DA+DM worse overall.
Who cares what other games do.I don't agree to this, we are tanks our main interactions should be around tanking skills not as DPS with damage reduction skills. I'm not saying maxing DPS is bad or anything, but I play tank to tank not to play a simplify version of a DPS. Others game like BnS allow tanks to do a lot of damage (same amount or more than a DPS) but they have to time all their skills and plan their rotation around immunity frames/blocks/counters/dodge/interrupts instead of just face tanking while pumping out DPS (and mistake can kill you at high-end content).
To me, this game has a really outdated tanking scheme focusing more on face tanking and long term cd's than anything else.
Tanking was in a great place in this game and now they are messing it up.
This would be great! Combo finishing DoT
I agree that missing TBN procs feels awful, but I love that aspect of it. There's not much to do while tanking, and timing TBN is one of the few actually-difficult things we have. However, the actual uptime on TBN is stupid. The horrendous delay and short duration on its cast makes it ridiculously hard to time it sometimes, especially when server lag is so volatile right now. I don't understand why the effect isn't immediate when almost every other skill feels relatively much more snappy.
Very, very interesting!
I agree about your thoughts, and I've to say that the DRK his no more fun to play.
TBN is a great CD, and I like the idea of "Power comes for a price", like DA, after all, it's the main idea of the DRK, however, the cost is far too high for the gain.
But! if we want dps, we have to use DA. Ok, but if we want to use TBN, it's exactly the same price that DA... But if we look the others tanks: they don't need a cost like that to just protect themselves.
We've lost Shadowskin (Foresight is just replaced by Rampart), the combo DD + Reprisal as you say, and what have we in compensation?
Same abilities, but less powerfull.
Now, we have to spam DA for our main combo, we have to know the fight perfectly to not waste pm for TBN.
Before we was the "All-in-one-tank", like:
-MT: PLD > DK > War
-OT: War > DK > Pld
Now, we're the last for the two categories
Sorry if I've made some mistakes, I'm French and my english is not very good...
