    End of an Era

I know I'm hella late, but I just took time to actually read up on the lore of 'A Realm Reborn' since I'm starting to get back into things. After, reading up on everything, I went back and watched the End of an Era trailer with open eyes and understanding. By damn it was beautiful and well crafted. It almost brought a tear to my eye ;( .

you should check out a video called "flames of truth" which pretty much gives you the end events of the secne (don't watch if you haven't done Coil or have any intention of doing coil)

Do people still run Coil? Because I think that's an extensive Raid or something if I'm correct

Coil was the ARR raid cluster (like Alexander or Omega) that focuses heavily on tying up the 1.0 storyline (having some basic knowledge of what happened there is helpful but not necessary). Most of it can be run unsynced for easy completion (not all of it though *glares at T9*)

Would you advise me to look up videos before going in? Or would it be possible for me to go in and learn as I go? Because for me, I like to be in the dark when I'm first starting things like this. It makes it more exciting.

It depends on whether you want to run it unsynched (happens fairly often in Party Finder, due to Wondrous Tails) or synched (happens far less frequently, although I do see it pop up occasionally in PF).

The Coils have some of the meanest mechanics in the game, even now. If you're doing it synched, be prepared to wipe a lot in certain Turns, even if you already know what the mechanics are. Communication needs to be excellent, which is a rare thing in pick-up groups. In this case, I'd definitely recommend watching or reading a guide.

If you're planning to do it unsynched, though, it's possible to just blitz through everything via sheer power. Many annoying mechanics (eg T2) don't matter. That being said, a few of the Turns have insta-kill mechanics that don't care how over-levelled you are. T9 is the primary culprit, although T5 is usually the wake-up call.

There's a guide on Reddit about running the Coils unsynched. It's made for Heavensward, but Stormblood just makes it easier. One advantage of unsynched runs is that you don't need to find seven other people of the proper roles in order to clear. Four people is entirely possible.

In short, if you're looking forward to the gameplay, run it synched; you'll not see any otherwise. But if you're just looking forward to the story, run it unsynched for your sanity.

I was still trudging through HW story content up untill SB so I never got to do the Coils Raid, or many other stuff like the Crystal Tower or the Void Ark or even Alexander. And I want to do them at-least once because I feel they are integral parts of a Warior of Light's story. From an MMO Perspective running back to do an old raid for no reward would be foolhardy but I want to for the story.

How do I sign up for dungeons unsynced, and does that mean I can do them at 70?

Sadly I found the revelations in the Crystal Tower raids to be old news, entirely because it's all listed in the lorebook. If I had played it before reading the history of the Allagan Empire, I would probably be more appreciative.

Coils is still pretty great story-wise, though. Not much of it is in the lorebook, so some of the surprises still hold true.

In Duty Finder, there's a little gear icon for settings. Click on that, then look through the options presented. There should be one saying "Allow Undersized Parties" or something to that effect. Select that option. Then queue for the dungeon/raid through Duty Finder as per normal.

This assumes you have a group with you, of course. If you queue undersized without a group, you'll be placed into the instance solo. Which is still useful, especially if you want to get that map achievement for Sastasha NM.

To get a group to do unsynched content, put up a Party Finder. Among the options you can fiddle with is one also saying "Undersized Party". Select that one to advertise that you want to do it undersized/unsynch. Note that this only means you're advertising for undersized, and you still need to go into Duty Finder options to do undersized.

Undersized (and thus unsynched) parties retain all their levels and ilevels. Hence the ability to steamroll over content. If you're 70, you'll remain 70, with whatever ilevel your gear is.

Thanks, good to know. There is a lot I don't know about this game's interface, and when I resubscribe I definitely want to try gathering a few mats from lower level dungeons.
