So what do these two posts lead me to believe? One the hardware is ok (possible). Also maybe someone designed content that isn't compatible with the hardware, I am shocked, SHOCKED I say.

It is very clear from this forum that SE should not have to design around their limitations. Players should learn to suffer and keep paying.

I feel like they need to stop doing open world mega fates like this if the server can't handle more than 400 players simultaneously in one zone. There's nothing fun about your attacks not registering due to lag or dying to unavoidable damage because of lag. When you do these, you do what you can and pray you don't get disconnected or killed.

I don't know why lodestone has so many apologists. The servers have been shaky since the release of ARR and perhaps never stood upright since then. It's Square Enix guys. Is this game so unlucrative that they have to budget their resources at the expense of their own player base?

Since the beta of 1.0, actually. Anyway, do they need to budget their resources like they are? No. That doesn't mean they won't do so whenever humanly possible to keep it for themselves and the shareholders. I also don't know how much autonomy the XIV team has from senior management.

Odin still laggs even today and I still see lots of people there. Also unlike other big fate bosses Ixion has a mount behind it. So no I cant see how this gets better soon. Also this is bad for a complete zone! You not only punish the people that are wanting to kill Ixion but also those that want to do story or gather. Also Ixion is not the only zone killer, PotD seems to make its zone unstable and laggy too.

And maybe if the servers cant handle it..maybe they should just simply stop doing such fates?

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Sorry this very hard to believe. Odin was killing the zone every time he spawned. Even on a lower pop server he can still lag out the zone.

So there are a lot of things that can cause all of this, one is hardware limitations, which will happen if the server is being given more data than it's capable of processing. Essentially getting to many requests to fast and can't respond to them quickly enough. This problem can sometimes be fixed by spending thousands upon thousands of dollars to upgrade one portion of a single server.

The other problem is network limitations. This would happen if the amount of data required to get the requests to the server, and amount of data required to respond to all requests exceeds the amount of bandwidth allocated to the server. This 99 times out of 100 is completely out of the server administrators hands. The onus to fix this problem rests on ISP's, and until the US does major upgrades to it's ISP infrastructure, that's not going to happen, at least for the N/A servers.

You can literally shut down an entire WoW server by overloading one zone.

It really doesn't matter if t's the server or the networking, the bottom line by placing these bosses in non instanced zones SE has created the situation. Being overly pedantic on the exact cause does not alleviate concerns or prompt SE to resolve issues. To be perfectly honest we don't have the data to determine whether it a load-balancing issue or a networking bottleneck but that's irrelevant, those who are leveling in those zones should not have to suffer just because a boss they don't care about happens to spawn. This game comes with requirements needed to play the game as long as these players are above the requirements they should be able to play it.

I don't know the solution to the issue, removing the boss would probably anger a lot of people but leaving it is unfair, I suspect SE will just ignore it and wait until less people are interested in killing the boss and the situation resolves itself.

Also, it becomes not a server problem, but a networking one, when the amount of people reaches a certain point. You can only transmit and receive so much data, and if you have to transmit that data to every player that is currently in said instance, it gets multiple time higher.
I have a brand new pc. I DC'd all the time for Ixion and zoning into S. Shroud.

    It's the servers.
