I feel like they need to stop doing open world mega fates like this if the server can't handle more than 400 players simultaneously in one zone. There's nothing fun about your attacks not registering due to lag or dying to unavoidable damage because of lag. When you do these, you do what you can and pray you don't get disconnected or killed.

    It's the long-forgotten 8th deadly sin.

Since the beta of 1.0, actually. Anyway, do they need to budget their resources like they are? No. That doesn't mean they won't do so whenever humanly possible to keep it for themselves and the shareholders. I also don't know how much autonomy the XIV team has from senior management.

So there are a lot of things that can cause all of this, one is hardware limitations, which will happen if the server is being given more data than it's capable of processing. Essentially getting to many requests to fast and can't respond to them quickly enough. This problem can sometimes be fixed by spending thousands upon thousands of dollars to upgrade one portion of a single server.

The other problem is network limitations. This would happen if the amount of data required to get the requests to the server, and amount of data required to respond to all requests exceeds the amount of bandwidth allocated to the server. This 99 times out of 100 is completely out of the server administrators hands. The onus to fix this problem rests on ISP's, and until the US does major upgrades to it's ISP infrastructure, that's not going to happen, at least for the N/A servers.

You can literally shut down an entire WoW server by overloading one zone.

It really doesn't matter if t's the server or the networking, the bottom line by placing these bosses in non instanced zones SE has created the situation. Being overly pedantic on the exact cause does not alleviate concerns or prompt SE to resolve issues. To be perfectly honest we don't have the data to determine whether it a load-balancing issue or a networking bottleneck but that's irrelevant, those who are leveling in those zones should not have to suffer just because a boss they don't care about happens to spawn. This game comes with requirements needed to play the game as long as these players are above the requirements they should be able to play it.

I don't know the solution to the issue, removing the boss would probably anger a lot of people but leaving it is unfair, I suspect SE will just ignore it and wait until less people are interested in killing the boss and the situation resolves itself.

This could have been easily avoided by having Ixion spawn in any of the Ala Mhigan zones randomly (like Odin). People would be less inclined to camp out the Lochs that way. Have they removed zone instancing too? At least put it back in the Lochs if they're going to leave Ixion there.

Big fates would be fine if they didn't insist that everyone has to kill it multiple times to get the reward. Fox fate isn't locking anyone out at this point.

The lack of clear communication and the recent message about "everything being alright" is the final joke in my opinion. If I have a problem with my phone or internet provider, things like that not only are unlikely to happen, but get sorted out quicker than they are in this relatively small community (and this says it all).
I agree. Infrastructure needs to match the content designed. If SE's servers can't handle open-world monsters like Ixion, then SE needs to remove it or modify it until such time as they can handle the load. Disconnecting people isn't a valid solution (and no, as some ignorant posters have mentioned, it is not due to client-side PCs in cases of over-crowding).

Yet, time and again, SE has failed at this. They had this problem with Odin back in the day of 2.x, and clearly haven't learned from it. Their housing design exceeded their resources, and problems from that screw-up persist today, years later. Even their idea for apartments didn't completely solve the problem for large servers, which, oh yeah, as long as we're on the topic, were also their fault - a problem they neglected to fix until it became absolutely intolerable. And let's not forget the atrocious MSQ that plagued the first few days of Stormblood, all because SE designed a bottleneck that their servers couldn't cope with.

SE needs to match content to capability. Stop trying to deliver experiences that your servers can't handle. If it means no more large-scale open-world FATEs, then f*cking get rid of them already.

Came here looking for drama about Balmung or Ixion, was not disappointed.

In all seriousness, they just need to make it like Odin and have it in any zone.
