Thread: Can't level up

I currently have a BLM at level 50 and a SMN at level 51. When I run a dungeon or do a FATE I see the experience points flash on the screen but they don't drop down to my character's total experience points. In the past I screwed up the characters by removing certain equipment rendering them unavailable. I seem to have corrected that as I can play them again. Is it possible that the damage done to them prevents the experience points from accumulating? After all I am awarded Thaumaturge experience points - but no longer have that character.

I love the game and want to keep playing but if I can't level up what's the point. Both expansion packs have been installed and registered.

So you are playing your black Mage, but not getting xp while you play it?

Are you saying you are still getting THM experience points? Because that is the same thing as BLM.

...Are you saying that you are getting THM exp on a character that doesn't even have THM unlocked? Trying to figure out what exactly is going on here.

A while ago I stupidly tried to save space in my Amory Inventory by moving items to a Retainer. I moved some items that were already equipped on my characters. When next I logged in and tried to access them I was told that there were items missing and could not retrieve the characters. With the help of the people on this forum I got them back (BLM & SMN). I noticed that I wasn't accumulating experience points. I also notices that the narrative mentioned getting Thaumaturge experience points as well as whichever the beginning class was for the Summoner. I tried to re-create those characters but only succeeded in overwriting my Thaumaturge. I still have the Arcanist on Conjurer I believe but perhaps they didn't come through the restoration too well. This is the only thing I can think of that might be causing my problem.

What you mean you no longer have that character?

You don't have your Black Mage stone equipped. If you equip it you'll get Black Mage points instead of Thaumaturge.

If you are a BLM with the BLM job stone equipped you will still gain THM exp. Your BLM exp = THM exp.

Seems to come down to a fundamental misunderstanding of the game and using words incorrectly here.
Your character is a person - the one you select when logging in - and they are always the same character no matter how much you change class/job by equipping a different weapon.

No damage has been done to your character and they are not unable to gain experience points or increase level, you're just misinterpreting the information the game is telling you.
Equipping or removing a job stone will switch between a job and the class it is based upon; think of the job as the advanced form of that class. Whether you use it or not you still receive class* exp as they are one and the same, they grow together as one. Black Mage = Thaumaturge. Summoner = Arcanist.

Your character isn't damaged if you misplace an item, causing the error message that item cannot be found. Simply update the gearset and save it again so that it's no longer existing find an item that isn't there. You can avoid accidentally selling or depositing items which are registered to a gear set because they will have a mark in the corner of their icons when viewed in the armory chest to show they are being used in your set.
