    The surge thread

    This thread is for discussing the current implimentation of lancer's actions known as surges(i.e Powersurge) Dreadspike is allowed as well since its related.

    Being a long time Lancer i am for the most part still happy with my class, that being said the new patch has made some radical changes to surge actions. My biggest gripe is that i need to constantly watch my surge duration timer or else i can lose the effect from a moments distraction in important fights. It is also very costly to maintain them for what are questionable gains at times. So for me i would like to see a duration increase in some form more comparable to the duration of the old surge actions. Wether that be a strait duration increase or a increase by tiers or an action/trait.

    I dont think it is that bad but I wouldn't complain about a duration increase or even a lower Cooldown to stack them faster or maybe even the same mechanic as Raging Strike I'm happy with the way it is but wouldn't mind it being better.

    The new surges are good, stacking buff rotations make interesting gameplay. If it's hard for you to keep track of, just place your buff bar in central view on the UI so your eyes don't have to stray. Create a quick go-to macro and boom, problem solved. TP is still a non-issue as LNC so I don't see how these buffs are "costly".

    New shorter buffs coupled with combo rotations and situational skills provide an interesting gameplay that wasn't present before and I am extremely happy with the way battle mechanics are shaping up. I think SE has it right here, IMO. It's nice to have that momentary lapse of "Do I keep my stack alive or do I mitigate damage? Do I keep my stack alive, or push out this combo?" I like having a choice in battle and those "oh shit!" moments are what I live for in MMOs.

    edit: Yeah rath it really does make a difference.... did have full thrust and feint there but they dont seem to get used anyway will need to macro them or else they will fade into the unused pile never to return.

    Surges are very nice, I think it's about 120 attack power added for Power Surge III and 1/2 damage absorbed for Life Surge III. The duration is low, but it's understandable when you do consider their strength.

    I think the power and life surge abilitys are perfectly fine. Combat gets more fast paced that way. "Woah shit, 0 seconds *rebuff*"

    But dread spikes... I try to see the advantage in this skill, when doing GC Leves i get around 110~ HP gain from hits of a level 49 mob... It seems the amount of hp gain depends on the damage the mob is capable of doing and your life surges/power surges previously stacked. In the moogle fight i get higher HP gains, a result of getting more damage?

    I use it rarely, only in wtf moments when i take serious damage and aggro, alongside other damage reducing skills. The HP gain from dread spikes is so low and only happens once, while the life gain of 3 stacked life surge remains and does almost 80% of the hp gain from dread spike each AA!

    Do i miss something important, or is it really not that good of an skill?

    Why not make Surge operate like Raging Strike or Fist of Element? You switch it on and it consumes 500 TP every 60 seconds, stacking effect up to three times. You will have to turn it off in case it consumes too much TP and leave you lacking for a Combo, and it will automatically turns off when you don't have enough TP to feed it. That way you are still required to be conscious about it but being less of a hassle.

    Because Lancers generate large amounts of TP & would never have to turn it off, that's why not.
