    Playing with a controller

Sorry if I post in the wrong part of the forums, and HELLO, but I have a question.

Has anyone tried to play XIV with a Nintendo Switch Pro controller? I cannot find anything on the matter and would like some feedback, especially from PC players.

As to why just Nintendo, I have a Switch and it'd feel kind of stupid to get a PS4 or Xbox controller as I wouldn't be able to utilise them as good (although I am aware that Xbox controller works great on Windows because Micorosoft).

Please share your experiences with controllers! Thanks!

If you game on PC Xbox is the best controller. It is widely supported, works great with controller apps like xpadder and pinnacle game profiler for games that don't have native controller support.

I don't own a switch yet because the only game appealing to me so far is Zelda.

The big plus is third party versions are pretty cheap.

I'd be using the NSPro controller only for Switch and XIV, but I'm worried both my laptop (Win10) and XIV will have issues with just this particular controller. I saw a guy asking the same on reddit but 0 useful replies qq

If your PC can recognize the controller you can use it. Regardless of what type it is. I have played this game with DDR dance Pads, flight sticks, PS1 and SNES controllers (using a USB adapater) and a home made book controller customized for SCH/SMN (just turn the page to change the job layout) using an ardiuno board.

If the game itself does not recognize the controller at all, you can get a few different programs that will let you customize it and trick the PC into thinking it is a supported controller (a dualshock 4 or an xbox controller).

If you have any issues just let me know and I can help you get set up with it.

As far as how the game works on controllers, I love it and I doubt I could ever switch to a KB+M setup. It takes some getting used to but I find it far more intuitive and manageable using a controller myself with the only issue being placement of ground targets as you need to either switch to virtual mouse mode or move your camera to select the placement area.

I'm using an Xbox360 controller on the PC, what's annoying is that it's not clear what all the button shortcuts are (like that LT + up/down = scroll through enmity list) but once you figure them out (or look them up online), it's pretty good.

However, the reason I'm replying to this thread is that I used to play Tera with a Gamecube controller (and the only reason I'm not using it with FF14 is because I can't find my USB adapter for it as that's my favorite controller of all time). I used a program called xbox360ce and it would let my computer think my GC controller was a 360 controller and I could use it for any game that supported 360 controllers - which I'm sure you can guess a lot more games support that one than the GC so it was an absolute necessity.

If FF14 gives you any issues with using the Switch Pro controller directly, using xbox360ce is a good workaround.

Excuse the double post, I just wanted to add I'd use it for gathering. Combat-wise I stick to KB+M

I'm not sure which I want to see more, someone playing this with a DDR pad or the custom book controller.

XIV has the option to calibrate controllers so you can select what button does what. It will probably be recognized as a generic "Wireless Controller". So setup is easy.

The biggest thing will be that the controller is Bluetooth as far as I am aware and I am not sure it works wired. If you want to use it via bluetooth make sure your computer supports it natively (and even if it does) or buy a GOOD bluetooth dongle as the cheap ones are prone to interference causing dropped inputs. Make sure it is at least Bluetooth 4.0 or better.

I have been using pc Xbox one controller and it works great. I don't really have any solutions for you but can I ask why not an Xbox controller since it's basically plug and play?
If it's personal preference then I hope you get it working, I mean either way I hope you get it working lol, mostly just wondering why.
