    Disciple Of War: New Tank Job Idea: The Hunter

    This is an idea based off a previous idea for a DoL hunter. It is pet based tank class with a focus on the hunter being a DPS while the pet does all the tanking.





    The hunter and pet would have significant interplay supporting each other.



    Interceptor starts off fully armed to the teeth. While the hunter starts off mostly human. As the hunter progresses, it gains more and more mechanical or cybernetic enhancements.







    The idea is kind of bare-bones right now. But I think the game needs a ranged physical tank. The meta of this job would be the job for people who don't necessarily like playing the tank role. Since the hunter plays mostly as a DPS itself and the pet handles the brunt of tank work.

    Beastmaster Hunter with Tenacity Pet! Great for outdoors. The AI for the pet tanking would be horrid in instances.

    They've already nerfed the only pet job that had tanking abilities into the ground. Why would they create another one? It would only tick off Summoners further.

    If they can incidentally screw over other mechanics when adding new ones (e.g. Ten Chi Jin when paired with target movement and auto-facing due to Passage of Arms coding), maybe they can accidentally fix something that's always been horrible with this addition?

    On Topic:
    This actually looks like a really fun premise. Idk how it'd compare to other ("role") uses of the aesthetics or majority of its toolkit, but as an idea more or less in a vacuum it seems lucrative enough, provided a fitting place for its addition.

    That said, also looks like an opportunity to finally fix classes. This has a lot of common ground with MCH, unless I'm somehow reading all of this wrong.

    I'm a summoner and I am more ticked off about being resigned to 3 summons and sustain going bye bye, but wait... I can glamour them!

    At least with a one pet one master class they can make it more broad and unique. As for the AI, they do a pretty good job with Stormblood npcs in MSQ.

    Why not just have them fix summoner tank pet, or make a new summoner tank pet, and then provide a way to let Summoners choose to tank? Wouldn't that be essentially the same thing?

    With the strict roles in XIV. I think they are kind of in the deep end of the doodoo with a job that can play multiple roles. They could let you choose roles as you say, but then that would give grouping advantages to summoner over other jobs if it can fill multiple roles.

    So... basically you're essentially suggesting a "Beastmaster" that uses guns or cannons instead of a whip and a robotic pet instead of an organic one. Since it's pretty much almost the same as the ideas people have had for a Beastmaster Tank.

    Well in any case, given how SE has handled the AI for Summoner's pet I don't exactly have any faith in their ability to make a Tank that relies on a pet. That and they would be sure to give us next to no customization with it sadly. Given it took them forever just to give us Carbuncle Egi glamours.

    Beastmaster nor Blue Mage will never be added here in this game, not in the way they should be, and the summon fiasco is the proof in the pudding.

    If Beastmaster gets added here, it will be confined to very few pets and probably have the same issues summoner has now.

    No, I'm saying since smn will never get new pets due to an inability to make all the pets worthwhile and not broken for one job. That they should make new pet classes with one type of pet and one type of role. Without the other pets shoehorning this pet into a corner. This pet and job can be designed focused.

    This is the first:
    Role: Ranged Physical Based Tank with a dog pet.

    Next could be a Physical Based Melee Healer with a snake pet, etc, etc.
