    The monk I wish I was

    Hello All you Monks out there! Unfortunately, I am a bit bewildered by some of the changes that were made in Stormblood, and have posted what I think the Monk should play like! I have revamped the fist stances, tackle, and made some different suggestions for abilities that I think work well with their kit.

    You have a lot of very interesting ideas here, many of which I think could be really fun. In particular, I love the idea of an oGCD to ascend our GL to a new level only applicable while in GL3, and the Fist replacements are interesting. I do personally disagree with your removal of the Chakra system and the Reincarnation abilities you suggest. I feel that Chakra as it was in HW was quite good and effective as a resource to build between fights. I do feel it should be expanded upon by adding more to spend Chakra on, however, and moving Tornado Kick to costing 2-3 Chakra. Possibly add a fixed way of building it in combat, such as on every Raptor stance hit, or on Opo-Opo stance enhanced skills. Reincarnation is simply overpowered as you suggest it, and ability to raise, self or other, isn't really fitting what we are in a fight, let alone instantly and without raise sickness.

    This is so good, I love your ideas so much !

    Especially the glows and GL IV ideas. Also the new ressource replacing chakras would be amazing. Great job on that, it's clear and precise !

    It is true that reincarnation seems overpowered though.

    I agree with a lot of what you said. I admit I don't like the Chakra system. If they introduced a more steady and reliable way to get Chakra other than crits having a chance to give Chakra then that would be good! But that would basically be my Enlightenment system.
    I feel like the raise actually would be OK for a few reasons. RDM gets access to a raise and I believe Summoner still has it as well. These are both DPS roles same as Monk. Monks have always been mystical so I don't think it would be as absurd as giving a raise to a DRG. What would make the ability balanced is the fact that the Monk has to give up DPS in order to use the skill, and it has a very long CD. You could potentially keep the res sickness, but the self res I feel is something the game doesn't have. A raise on a 3 minute cooldown, and needing the resources to do it, is not as good as what casters already have, so getting rid of the sickness helps balance that out.

    In general I like these changes quite a bit more than the Stormblood action changes. The Fist changes still leave you in fire most of the time because it still gives more damage than the others, but spreading the 5% damage buff to all three of them improves it some.

    Another option I would be as happy with would be removing the fists entirely and just replacing them with the Riddles. The Riddle actions don't feel like expansion actions so much as actions we should get in the course of leveling (Form Shift fits here as well, it should honestly be earned at like level 20 with how critical it is). Riddle of Earth can be monks equivalent to Shadeshift and give the Job some survivability at lower levels when it's heavily gimped in damage due to lacking most of its attack buffs, Riddle of Fire can have it's damage reduced and Riddle of Fire can have the damage buff toned down and the haste removed.


    Monk having a res is an interesting notion as well, particularly a self res. While I can't think of any specific situations off the top of my head that seems like the sort of thing that would be abusable to cheese a lot of mechanics (Royal Pentacles, certain prey and tether mechanics).

    You belong in Square Enix. Go there and save us monks! Kidding aside, I really like your ideas and I don't want to be a debbie downer but it's highly unlikely that they will do an ovelhaul like this for us. There is a .01% chance that they'll consider something like this for the next expansion but it would've been nice if they implemented something like this for Stormblood since it's supposed to be the monk expansion.
