7th astral era quests without expansions

I just reached lvl 50 with my bard and it's gonna take some weeks before I'll be able to get heavensward + stormblood. Is it okay to do 7th astral era quests without expansions? Will I miss out on exp needed to reach lvl 60 by the end of heavensward?

It's perfectly fine as the patch storyline ultimately leads into Heavensward anyway (the npc that you finish the ARR '7th Astral Era' quests with is the same npc that starts off the Heavensward storyline) so when you do get it you'll be ready to go. Just be aware that not having Heavensward does place some limits on you which do not prevent you from enjoying the ARR content.

Specifically, you will not be able to level beyond level 50 (which was the original level cap for ARR), as having Heavensward installed and registered to your account is required to increase the level cap to 60 (and accordingly, Stormblood is needed to take that further to level 70). In other words, you won't gain exp once you are level 50 even if a quest gives exp.

Secondly, the au ra race is unavailable at character creation if you are interested in playing as one, only by having Heavensward installed are au ra available as a selection at the character creation screen.

It should also go without saying that the new areas added with the expansions and all the content that goes with them is inaccessible until you get the expansions.

So yes, you can play just the ARR content and storyline without the expansions for now, but it does have some slight limits on you that will only be removed when you gain the expansions. So it is up to you.

Maybe missed his question there. He's already at 50, and wanting to know if he'll still be able to pick up enough exp by the end of HW to hit 60 (presumably mostly through MSQ) if he waits to buy the expansion.

Will you miss out on exp if you continue before buying the expansion? Sure. But I don't really see why that would prevent you from hitting 60 by the end. Also worth considering that when you buy the expansion, it now includes Stormblood, which means the level cap is raised to 70. So, whether or not you need to grind a few extra dungeons, at least you won't hit the cap for a while (and probably will have less issue transitioning to SB).

Yeah, youll be fine. Those quests originally didnt give any exp, and the people who went through them back then didnt have too much trouble getting to 60. You can always toss in an extra roulette, dungeon, pvp match, or a couple PotD runs if you find yourself short at any point.
