Well since op's idea of upgrading current classes isn't getting much love (frankly I like the idea because I enjoy games and shows that show characters evolving over time), I would like to see the addition of a job that doesn't take itself seriously. Something like a juggler from fft advance that employs ridiculous items or tricks to do damage.

The idea of split jobs really only works in mmos where you can only be one class. It's a unique way of specializing but that can't apply to a game where balance is strict. Likewise, upgrading current jobs for no reason outside of changing their theme (in which they'd like just add a second job like red mage not being an arcanist or thaumaturge), is the equivalent of adding new skills and levels. Having similar themes between multiple jobs isn't a bad thing either. Ie: New job, Templar Knight: A holy 2h hammer magic knight that mixes magic and physical, but does dps instead and uses dragoon gear.
When you "upgrade" current jobs, you threaten to lose an identity that players enjoyed from it originally. It's much, much easier to just throw the hype at another job and leave it less complicated.

You're welcome.
Yup that's what I want

A game with branching jobs should be built around it before the game comes out, one example being Fiesta Online and another being Maplestory. Both are made with branching class systems. In 1.X we had base jobs, that became classes much later down the road. The only reason we kept them is because SE was trying to experiment with Smn/Sch seeing if branch classes could work, which flopped pretty badly.
This would NOT be a 'fun way' to move towards end game, when everything is already well established. What you're suggesting is NOT 'easy and fun not hard and complicated'. We don't need to gunk up what already exists with MORE evolving jobs.
If what your talking about is more glam then full on class then yes it could work. I wouldn't mind that I hate how stupidly easy the game is and ppl just want it dumbed down even more. But if what your talking about is just a special title and emblem next to your name im ok with that but it needs to be hard to earn not this go do a quest and you get it crap. As long and it doesnt add attacks or stats it could be done something else that should be done is if you get in trouble by a GM it need to be announced to the server so we know there doing something.
NEVER once did i say anything about branching jobs if you read the whole thing I talk about it mainly as a glam that is for people who get it up to that. So it is a class that just give you the cool exclusive glam that is not just bam do a quest and bam you have it. Leroy9988 has the right idea. everyone keeps going on about how they want the game to be a challenge but they complain the instant it becomes a challenge and they want it simple and easy. I want a fun game that is not I buy "1" item and i am level 60 at the end of HW which we all had to work on to get there.
