Says increases the chances of catching larger fish, but does this mean fish that tend to be larger, or larger versions of the fish you can catch there?

It relates to your fishing records - you will catch larger versions of the fish you can already catch there, so you're therefore more likely to get a new record. I think size also relates to their collectability? I've never been 100% on whether or not that's the case. Either way, the affect is the same as that on Patience 2, minus the increased HQ chance.
For fish, size IS their quality rating, though. The higher their quality, the bigger in yalms they'll be, that's how it works, from what I saw. But when they talk about larger fish in the tooltips, they usually talk about the Big Fish. That's the biggest difference between Patience and Patience II. I'd imagine Nature's Bounty is spearfishing's equivalent.

There's two kinds of "quality" ratings when it comes to fish. Normal quality and high quality - there's only two options. Patience increases the chance of you getting a high quality fish.
Size is your collectability and what gets recorded in your logs as a record. High quality fishes are, yes, much bigger, but Patience 2 and Nature's Bounty allow you to catch even bigger fish, giving you a better chance at setting a new record or getting a higher collectability.
Nature's Bounty and Patience 2 do not increase your chances at getting a "Big Fish" from what I have seen. Particularly when I was doing the Nepto Dragon line, I was no more likely to catch a Big Fish than I was without it. That's all up to time/weather/bait.

The purpose of Patience II is exactly to have higher chances at catching "Big Fish" aka those that are green. ("big fish" is SE's own wording for those) I don't know about star-marked fish. Otherwise the tooltip for that skill says twice the exact same thing:
"Increases the chance of landing an HQ fish by 80% while reducing Hook efficiency by 75%. Increases the likelihood of catching larger fish."
Nature's Bounty's description is pretty similar in wording as Patience II: "Increases the chance of landing a large catch on your next spearfishing attempt."
The only difference I see is the HQ chances. Patience II increases that as well, where as Nature's Bounty doesn't mention anything about increasing HQ chances, just the chance of 'larger' fish. The Teeming Waters spots already have their own bonuses, like insanely high HQ catch rate.
The expansion is still young, and there's no big fish yet to be caught, but at least now we have the skills ready when they arrive. That's how I see it.![]()

Can you use patience while spearfishing? Maybe its just the spearfisher version of something you already have for rod fishing.
You can't use patience while spearfishing, no.

Wow I have always thought "larger fish" in those descriptions meant that you were more likely to catch fish types that have a larger average weight; like if Thousandfangs are on average larger than Mitsuriku Sharks, Nature's Bounty would improve your chances of catching Thousandfangs. Ugh the fishing skill descriptions are so hopelessly vague.
Patience II does not increase Big Fish chance, it simply makes the fish you catch larger for more Scrips.

Thank you for confirming that. I was like 99% certain that was the case but this topic made me question it.Patience II does not increase Big Fish chance, it simply makes the fish you catch larger for more Scrips.
