Large fihstanks and the floating object trick...

    Hello,

now that we got rubysea-themed aquarium-decoartion I figured the miniature-Susano would make a great addition to it and a good friend for all my fish to play with! I made good experience with placing Sophia in the large fishtank before, but this turns out to be a bit more troublesome. Using the doman round table (or whatever that very low, round table is called) I get the perfect height to place Susano in the tank and hide the hideous blue stand in the sand of the fishtank, juhu!

...however this appears to be one of those occassions where the floating object trick isnt working correctly? As soon as I close the window, he drops down to the floor (funny enough: a plushie fox does not - he stays floating in the tank... why?! They're both tabletop-decoration after all...) - is there any way around that? I dont really want to place furniture beneath the tank because it would show, but eh...

So - anyone has any suggestion how to make objects float in XL tanks?
Or any explantion why my fox can float in it - but Susano cant?

It's likely the object size that is the issue. Perhaps the object box dips down more? If it's dropping to the floor, you'll have to float the tank a bit higher until you hit a sweet spot where he's not dropping.

Yeah, I just tried a different, slightly higher table and Susano keeps floating - but the blue stand is visible that way instead of completly covered by the sand... /sigh

Just use a partition and a wall shelf imo. This will let you get any height desired easily. You'd place the mini on the shelf and do the trick the same way as you did with the fox plushie. The object size shouldn't matter. I've seen ppl who get their tier 4 aquarium all the way up into the ceiling xD

If it were up there it wouldn't be a problem, but if an item's box (invisible) is close enough to a snap surface (floor, table, wall, etc depending on the object type) it will attach itself to that surface after you get out of the furniture placement mode. That's the problem in Vidu's situation, the miniature's item box is just big enough that it snaps down afterwards.

I wanted to do this too and I REALLY wanted to put the treasure chest in the fish tank with him. But the treasure chest isn't tabletop.

I suggest putting some planter partitions in front of the tank, then leaving the table under the tank. Maybe the planters will make it so you can't see the table legs under the tank? Or just about any other low item that will cover that.

...okay, this is gonna be a little necro but I figured better than making a new thread since its still related to this issue:

So, new home, new decoration needs to be put up! Here I am back, trying to get Susano into the XL fishtank while hiding the blue stand (why are those still a thing?!) in the sand.
My solution: Put Susano on the far eastern roundtable, it has the perfect height and leave the table under the fishtank - the legs arent showing to bad and I also found something to cover the front in case I'd have to.
Problem: The fishtank is a table top object... yep, as soon as I leave the menu I've got the freaking tank on the table aswell - looks hilarious, but not pretty enough.

...does anyone has an idea how to prevent that? I'd like to have the tank on the ground... with a table beneath it...

Have you tried floating Susano with a shelf/blank wall partition? I haven't worked much with the miniatures, but I have gotten other tabletop items to float really close to the floor with those items.

Some fc members tried to do the same thing with one of those tabletop figures. I had to float the figure up higher, removing the objects below it and then place the fish tank again afterwards. Unfortunately anything that can prop up a figure up is going to call the fish tank down if it's close enough.

With that I'm getting him to float in the tank, but the blue stand is visible (instead of being hidden in the sand which would be the case if Susano would be floating at the height of the Oriental Round Table).
    Thanks for the suggestion though!

It really seems as if its not possible to achieve what I'd like to achieve here... First world problems, I know, but... why does the whole decorating part has to be so difficult - and for so silly reasons...
