If they just admitted they screwed up when they made housing and and started plans to actually fix it, we wouldn't have any problems at all.
This attitude and mentality is exactly why these people got to buy an entire ward and you and everyone else like you did not. These people worked for around 150mil plus whatever they needed for their endgame. What is the problem, exactly? That the rich can buy nice things? Sure, I figure there is something a bit lopsided about those that can put in 30-40 more hours a week than others, but shouldn't they be rewarded for that? If you put in that time you would want to be rewarded too. Do you just want everyone to get a house with their account? Like, sure... They could do that, we could have a little instanced island with a medium that everyone can decorate across their account. Ah, but where would you get the furniture? Should we have just have vendors that sell every housing item for 1gil? Basically removes 80% of carpenter. This also raises the question of what incentives do you have to even play after that? Is a private instanced house even something people want? Isn't half the fun seeing your house among the others and knowing, "I did that" ?

People on the server clearly had no intention of buying the plots if they were available for literal months with no intervention. Like... It really is not that hard to make 5mil for a small. In fact, they were probably only 1-2 mil cause plot prices depreciate the longer they are open. To a limit, I'm sure, but idk what it is cause I'm from Balmung and plots don't last longer than 10 minutes. So that's further proof that the demand was not there... Until they weren't on the market anymore. Face it, people want what they can't have and it wouldn't surprise me if people only got upset cause they don't get to have 28 houses, rather than not having a house at all.

There is no system outside of instanced housing that solves the issue and frankly.. I don't want that, many others don't as well. Making housing cheaper just means there's MORE competition and thus fewer people getting houses. Making them more expensive means that only the rich get houses which further compounds the issues. More wards just opens up alts of rich people to get houses. They make gil as fair as everyone else, limiting the amount of houses per account means people are less incentivized to actually make money. If people aren't crafting, gathering, buying things, selling things, the economy stagnates. When that happens we'll be in a big problem as then new players will basically be unable to use the MB in any real capacity. Enjoy buying crafted gear for glamour? Better start getting mats and crafting it yourself since no one else is crafting stuff cause it's a pointless time sink!

So while you may claim it's selfish this is the result of capitalism. These two people clearly know how to make money and are very self sufficient so I would not be surprised if they are the sole reason the economy on Mateus starts churning. I've heard rumor Mateus is in a really bad place economically and it takes people like this to turn it around. The system as is is ultimately good for the game. Not for the random joe schmoe that wants a little house cause it looks nice, but there's a lot more at play than poor little Timmy that only plays 5 hours a week and just wants nothing more than a big 'ol passia house.
