Kotaku isn't exactly known for their quality journalism, and their interview of the players in question seems rather one-sided, so I would take everything in that article with a certain grain of salt.

That said, I personally think 28 houses is excessive, even if it is split between 2 players. They do good house designs though and I wouldn't mind seeing their work as part of a public or even if they hired themselves out as contractors and interior designers for other players; but that is a more personal reaction to their work and not to the situation.

As for the fact that housing is limited and is causing rampant inflation on popular servers, it is a strictly supply problem and the fault lies entirely with SE. The fact that players are asking for 50m gil to abandon their land says something about the demand and the lack of supply. A big problem with it is how SE decided to implement the housing, as neighborhoods instead of instances. This makes it incredibly taxing on the system as the neighborhoods themselves are entire zones, and the data allocation gets difficult extremely easily because every new patch adds new items that players use to decorate. There's no way for SE to handle this except to overhaul the system.

Philosophically, it's objectionable for 2 players to own 28 houses on a single server, but considering the land was laying there for months and months on an unpopular server, it's not unreasonable to think it was okay to use the land if you wanted; especially since those players had no idea SE would launch a server migration event and their server had plenty of land available. The majority of people complaining are players who migrated to the server for the new adventurer and 1mil gil reward. I'm not saying these players don't have a right to complain, but it's not wholly unexpected for housing to already be taken on older servers.

They should do the following in a thread that I've mentioned:

Not everyone will want to have 1 housing per account where they will want to stay in small forever.

Allow FCs to purchase their own wards with a high amount of gil so that max of 512 plots and 512 apartments can purchase the plots inside the ward(s)? By doing that, can you allow them to upgrade their interior sizes/furnishing slots and exterior sizes too? - For these plots reduce the prices of the FC Wards. Move out FC houses out of the current wards with full refund and give them the chance to purchase the FC ward instead - having FC main house in the center of Ward map in primary plot section.

As for current housing wards, make them all personal instead. But increase their wards up to 100~200+ to make sure that even one player who owns 8 alts could purchase it if they want to, so that people won't have to complain ever about plots being short or limited. Every time whenever Wards are being full in any server or even sizes are full, the server should recognize it and build a new ward automatically. Whether if it is large/medium. Not everyone is willing to stay small forever.

When player relinquish the land, please give 80-90% portion of the land as resale. To prevent the people from over price selling the land and to avoid violation of Term of Service.

Lastly, if people who are personal wishes to join in FC ward that are not FC members and purchase in the plot - perhaps they can get special permission to build housing in there. Now should these people who are in FC ward wish to leave FC or had special access wishes to move out, they'd be moving to personal ward where it's strictly for non-FC players only to purchase in these wards. They can transfer for free and grab the plots that are available within those 50-200 wards, whether it'd be small,medium or large.

I currently have one house. I'm going to try to get another when the new housing area opens up and once I'm situated and satisfied with it release the old house. I really can't see an advantage of more than one other than being able to acquire more stuff and with the interior item increase this argument is greatly reduced. I just wish they would increase the number of outside items.

I have three houses, two mansions and one personal small. My RP fc lives in one of the mansions. I have one paissa skin, one mog skin, and on the personal house no skin at all..... yet. Looking at that carbuncle skin, I really like it.

And yep I worked my ass off to get these houses. If I COULD, I would have all three plots on fcs for the airship aspect. I enjoy airships ok.

One mansion in the goblet, one in the mist, and my small is in lavender beds. A shame I can't take full advantage of the cheap teleports, but I'll survive.

I wanted places to RP where there aren't creepy OOC trolls staring at me! But ok? Whenever I read stuff like this I think about leveling more alts to 50, and buying more houses. It's just funny. If you want it, go get it. I've helped a lot of people get houses. On the hour every hour check the crystal, if I can do it on Balmung? You can do it anywhere.

You can sit there, be lazy and complain that something isn't placed directly into your lap? OR, OR, you can DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Personally, when I want something, I go and I get it. I use all of my houses, I like all of my houses, and I'm glad SE let me have these houses. Some people like to collect minions, mounts, whatever, I'm happy with what I have.

Some people have jobs and other responsibilities and can't be at a crystal every hour on the hour like you can. It's not a fair system and it baffles me how you can argue that it is. None of this takes away from the fact that someone shouldn't have to camp a crystal in the first place. It's just stupid.

Most of us don't sit at home, sitting on crystals on the hour like you can. It's called "adulting" - most of us have careers. Given your ignorant spoiled brat comments, you wouldn't know anything about what that is.

Minions and mounts are an unlimited source. Houses aren't by any means. Putting the two in the same category is a pretty inaccurate example.

I pretty much agree with Valinis. You might not be breaking any of Square Enix's broken rules when it comes to houses, but yeah, I share the same sentiments.
