    A Glamour Wardrobe/Collection Interface

So, I know this has been asked for a couple of times by now but I think it is important to make sure voices are heard that this is a very wanted feature.

I'm fairly new at FFXIV, came over from GW2 and WoW and been having a blast. One thing in particular I absolutely love are the armour sets in this game which are absolutely gorgeous. A problem, however, is how bulky and bothersome it is to collect this armour and use the Glamour system. My retainer have been quickly filling up with armour pieces that I'm very fond of, from multiple classes now especially since I've been working on levelling up a Healer and DPS class as well.

I think the developers really should consider looking at systems like the Wardrobe system of Guild Wars 2:

Which is a fantastically easy system to gather and use different armour pieces for glamour.

And the fairly new Transmogrification window implemented in World of Warcraft:

For inspiration of a similar implementation in FFXIV, as vain as something like this might be, it is just too good not to have in a modern MMO. You simply lock a piece of armour to your character, either by equipping or right clicking a piece and "Unlocking" it, it is now a permanent part of your collection to be used whenever you like whether you have the original piece or not. It's easy, saves a lot of bank space and is little bother for the players. It is just all around great for everyone. Ideally, this is an account wide collection, but not necessarily.

The overall method of Glamour wouldn't need to be changed, you'd still need Prisms to use it and the overall economy of players who makes these would remain untouched.

DCUO has the best glamour system.

You equip the item once and the look of it is yours forever, yoy dont need to keep the item or buy stupid crystals to change it. Just select it from a list and be done with it.

To quote our Anata friends, if we do not get a solution to this issue soon, "there will be a reckoning."

I just hope that if/when we do get a glamour/inventory solution, it's not as slapdash and cumbersome as the current glamour system.

Solution? No. But Yoshi P did offer an answer to this in one of the recent live letters.

    That answer was no.

He spouted off a lot of techno-babble, but the bottom line is the game is too badly programmed to allow this kind of thing right now. Basically it's the same problem that they were citing for not allowing us extra retainers or inventory space, which is that a character's entire set of data is transmitted and saved every 15 seconds or upon zone transition. Now... WHY is that happening? Because the people writing the game did it... badly, that's why. There's no reason, zero, to save data that isn't being changed, but apparently we still send the entire character data structure over every 15 seconds whether it needs it or not. That includes full inventory data AND full retainer data. This data also gets sent every time you move to the instance server, so it's really just a bandwidth and processing problem. There's too much garbage data being processed that doesn't need to be processed and adding a glamour log like this would just exacerbate the problem by essentially adding another calamity salvager data structure that needed to be transmitted and saved even when it wasn't being changed.

Honestly, I'd even take just a catalogue of items and where they drop at this point. There is no way to search whole dungeon sets for glamour if you don't own them. I understand there's a mass issue with how the game handles the actual glamouring of items, but a catalogue of every item that I can search and try on? I'd love that.

Oh I'm more than familiar with the excuses.

By "solution," I'm really not interested in what they can't do, but rather what they can. If they can't give us a full-blown solution, they can at least do something to alleviate the problems caused by this issue. Personally, I'd be happy if we could had an additional tab in the glamour menu that would list the items we have accumulated through quests, achievements, events, promotion and events. Unless I am mistaken, a vast majority of that could be flagged either through achievements or the quest log.

If they are reluctant to add more character data, they should at least take advantage of the data that is already there. If saves us time, and makes the process of glamour a bit less cumbersome, I doubt too many people would complain.

He's given conflicting answers often enough it's not clear which to believe. Sometimes he says they can't do it. Other times he says they could, but it wasn't high enough on the priority list and their UI team was too busy.

And as to the 15 second save issue, that just means they likely couldn't have it auto update whenever we receive new gear (which would require it being in character data). Put it in a separate interface that we access like we do retainers or the Armoire, and that problem goes away. Those sorts of collections only need to be backed up when accessed.

This makes me want to slap the people who designed 1.0 even harder than I already do...

Still, I hate to say it, but this NEEDS to be done. The game is only ever going to be adding more and more gear, which are going to fill Armoires to the bursting point.

It's literally only ever going to get worse and worse as time goes on so they're better off fixing it now than later, even if it means rewriting massive parts of the game's code.

    A much needed feature.

I am aware of SE's current refusal but hopefully one day they will realize how tacky it makes the game come across not having such a standard feature by 2017.
