So you see a future where people will pay to play without a total over haul of everything?

I mean, realistically if you played back when the game was released, and you played again now. There are only a few changes that really made a difference. More Items, smoother interface, and EXP/SP Generation. In the time that they had to make updates and changes to the game, i feel like they really aren't thinking things through. They mentioned Companies near the day of release, and haven't implicated any hint of it. They talk about how they are working to make the game better, but in reality, there has been soo little improvement.

the improvement to lag has been EXTREME and it is better almost every patch, id say this has been one of the things we can clearly see they have worked on ^^I mean, realistically if you played back when the game was released, and you played again now. At this moment SE is reacting to the communities "Need to fix" issues. Making the game playable to the hundreds of thousands of players who are over the hype; is in the distant future.6 months have passed and what does SE have to show for it? A few new rooms in the Market wards, a weak search function, and a UI that's closer (yet so far off) to where it should have been at launch, 5 new monsters, the Coatee that all the manthras wear, and 6 or 7 side-quests that offer no incentive.
(Remember - you're supposed to wait 6 months before you review an MMO???) At this rate, I'm worried that Ishgard won't be created for another year and a half. It's possible for a new player to explore this entire tiny world in an hour or two.
SE's second and last chance at making a name for this game is the PS3 Launch when all the big reviewers re-review the game. The truth of the matter is, there are some HUGE upcoming titles that could keep the spotlight off of FFXIV's PS3 Release... That is... unless SE does something drastic, and does it fast..
The question is... is there enough time to fix this game? Will Yoshi-P pull something out of his hat and surprise us all, or will FFXIV be quashed by the competition?

we got lots off time, as long as they dont hurry ps3 release it will go greateven if it takes more years for ps3 and people forgets about it, they will come at that release ^^
If I were not such a fan of SE, I would have looked to another game long ago to fill my spare time. I have hope, but not much patience this late in the game.
^ yes, but fixing the lag isn't going to make the reviewers plaster a bunch of "FFXIV best game all time" on their websites. That's what this game needs, and it's what we want! I don't know about you, but I don't want to play in a low population MMO.

I don't believe it's a matter of time as it doesn't matter how many features SE tries to add or improve, because it's the combat system that is flawed. Reading Letter V they seem to understand this very well, and the changes they have done to this point haven't addressed the real issues with the game. I think once we have defined roles, we will actually feel a part of the world and the community.
I actually enjoy the closer communities that seem to come out of smaller games. I played WoW for months and got a couple of classes to 80 and still didn't really feel like I was a part of anything. WoW is pretty much the tyrant of the MMO market right now. XI was my first MMO, and my personal favorite thus far, it set my precedence for what an MMO "should be." I'm not expecting an overhaul which will magically transform XIV into XI-2, but realistically speaking, we should probably expect that the games a company makes, especially one that is the same franchise will, realistically speaking, be similar. I don't ever see XIV being the game that everyone else likes nor do I want it to be.
well tbh it is a good thing that SE will keep fixing this game until it becomes playable ... because seriously with these graphics and these good music ... anything can be fixed ... it just needs a clear mind... hell sometimes I wish I work for SE when they released FFX-2 FF12 FF13 and FFXIV ... just to scream in the office "CANT YOU SEE THE MISTAKES???"
