Do retainers generate random gil?

Do you often use your retainers to sell off the junks directly? (Not to the market board but the ones you do like selling to NPC)
If I'm not wrong, doing that will have the gils earned go to your retainer instead of in-hand amount. (I can't confirm this since I rarely look at my gil when I sell the junks)
