I mained ninja in HW and while i had fun playing it i felt it was lacking a bit in dps and aoe dps in comparison to difficulty and being a melee job...

In SB i leveled my paladin and my white mage for fast dungeon tome farming but still i have not decided what dps to play (and be my main). I was about to go samurai since it seems the strongest atm but leaving my ninja didnt feel right so i was waiting for 4.0.5 patch to decide..

I read here that ninja dps is much better now than HW... is that really true? Are we not far behind monk/samurai?

we're behind SAM and MNK, but we still got the most powerful utility buff, so the NIN is as good as it always was. it's in no way weaker than the other melees

NIN is still the melee with the lowest dps, slightly behind DRG. And rightly so. NIN and BRD are neck on neck in terms of personal dps.

Actually on all the encounters NIN and DRG seems to hover between the same dps, slightly over bard. But DRG got two buffs: the critical buff and the one that buff himself and someone else. NIN got only TA but it's 10% more damage for everyone with around 17% uptime.

So far I have my NIN to 70, ilvl 314, and have been enjoying it. Still working on mastering a few things, but all in all it has been an awesome experience. While I still plan on leveling a few other different jobs, I think I'm confident in NIN being my main.

    I don't like 4.0 NIN at all.

QoL changes actually lead to more complications. With the addition of Hide, people's first thought is, "Yay, I don't have to make my group wait 20 sec any more!" but the hardcore brain will say, "No you fool, cast Huton, wait 20 seconds position as close to the boss as possible, and pre-pull Doton > Hide > and have the tank pull it into it."

They removed Dancing Edge, so it lost its coolest looking and sounding animation(the loss of this makes it feel like playing a Windy Ballerina rather than a deadly assassin). They buffed Aeolian to be roughly the same as DE potency whether you hit the positional or not, but it still does that stupid thing where you don't jump as high and the sound effect dampens, which feels awful. Since Slashing Debuff and your only DOT are on the same attack, you only have to maintain one thing. Nice for the lazy, a DPS loss and sad time for veteran NINs like me.

The new skills it got are cool, but Ten Chi Jin is infuriating.

I only ever played Ninja until Stormblood. It felt similar to the Rogue I spent 10 years on in WoW, so I never looked at any other class. But the increase in latency (East Coast, NYC) made Mudra became more of a tedious chore to use so I didn't drop part of my rotation. It always feels like juggling so many different things while accounting for lag, that one mistake often meant I felt like I spent the entire rest of the fight catching up. TenChiJin drives me crazy with lag as well, and I don't know if anyone ever noticed my attempts at helping with utility use. It's just more of a chore throw into the rotation for me.

I got my Red Mage to 70 and have enjoyed the rotation and overall flow so much more. I can pump out a ton of damage without having to juggle 3-4 buffs, adjust myself on the fly if I slip up, and still toss out a heal or a revive if the healer's low on mana or just needs a hand. I actually regret gearing out my NIN first since he became my least used class by far.

The Shukuchi change fixed one of the only things about NIN that bugged me, as the skill was so slow previously that trying to use it to avoid AoEs more often then not would get you killed.

The only standing issue I have with the class at this point is Trick Attack needing a back hit to apply its debuff on top of having a trigger delay that only makes it easier to miss the positional.

Two more years of "this openner exists because of trick attack". I love it.
