And in a weird twist of fate, FFXI actually took some from XIV as well. Namely, the Salamander mobs made up one of the bosses in SoA.
Agreed! They look weird floating just above the ground... Their tail needs a bit more "weight" to it. As it is, they just look like mermaids but floating in the air (kinda similar to SE's obsession with floating fish, now that I think about it...)
Edit nvm found it
I agree that it'd be nice if Ananta (and Lamia!) had longer tails which actually touched the ground. I'm not going to hold my breath, but it would be nice.
On an interesting note part of the reason which FFXI Lamia float (and therefore FFXIV Lamia, and therefore FFXIV Ananta) is that they shared a model skeleton with FFXI Merrows, which were humanoids with FISH tails for legs - and all fish mobs, both in this game and in that, float above the ground. Giving the Lamia long tails in that game would have meant new animations, rather than sharing animations with Merrows, and they decided to take the easy way out - just as they did when they ported the Lamia over to this game.
I do wish they'd given the race a redesign when they brought it to XIV, much as they did with Ahriman type mobs (SO much better than the silly dumpling-shaped Ahriman in XI), but I guess they decided that they just weren't going to be important enough to warrant one... or that they looked good enough as-is.
I'm... I'm sorry to tell you but... That's just another Lamia-like person that looks nothing like the ananta model...
