Scary news for my character doth come in the guise of change........

Alright, i was reading what they had planned in the developers threads and i was absolutely terrified. When i read that they were going to replace jobs names with more traditional names i absoltuely cringed. The names and what the jobs have to offer are fine in my opinion. The fact that my character isn't stuck in a predisposed box of "YOU ARE A BLACK MAGE" or "YOU ARE A PALADIN" is absolutely refreshing! What 14 had to offer as far as jobs, their ability to twist, and in ways, manipulate within the game is something that, to me, no other game has to offer. It is a bold step and sadly one that was over shadowed by multiple fumbles. Please don't take away my characters ability to be unique and self manageable. With that, i turn this thread to the staff and players.

Never fear! In a recent interview for Ezoreapedia, Yoshi-P said this isn't what's going to happen. This is a snippet from the interview text here.

    Q. You have also mentioned the possible introduction of traditional names. How do you see these new names fitting into the existing class system? Do you plan on using the new names as a guide to develop class uniqueness?

    A. Yoshida-san is between two possible plans at this time. The first idea is that the traditional names would be introduced as “higher” or “advanced” classes. The traditional classes would thus be something of a goal for players. The second idea is that the traditional names would be more of a subset or specialization within the existing classes.

Whatever change is put into effect needs to be right. He recognizes that he will not be able to change the system again after this, so whatever is put into place needs to work, and be able to be balanced, for years to come. Because of this his team is giving this issue a lot of thought prior to implementation.

the idea of my character aspiring to monkhood!!!!! i could so do with that! only snag would be if my character wanted to play ALL job classes @_@. which to be honest, IS my characters goal! >D but that really would be cool as long as we weren't absolutely STUCK with the descision. and how would that work for tmage o.O? its a powerhouse all its own, i could see conjurer splitting between black mage and white mage. but tmage is.....red mage? don't see a real split there :/

The Armoury system was created for fanboi's (imo). We fanbois know what skills a WHM has, A BLM has, a RDM has, a MNK has, a PLD has, ect, and what roles they play. What squeeeeeenix did was give us the tools, albeit not all the tools...yet, to make these archetype "jobs" by ourselves.

So SE should reiterate the fact that we don't have set "jobs" and post some builds to fit certain roles for those who need their hands held.

I think most of the complaints about lack of class uniqueness come from the fact that people aren't taking full advantage of the armory system.

I could care less about classic names, I'm not a purist when it comes to a game that tries to redefine itself every count in the series, whether its in gameplay, story, or class names. I have a bow, I shoot arrows, I am Archer. I now have a set of absorbing magic to use, I R teh Dark Archer. Now I got a huge axe with same magic, I am the closest thing I can get to a Dark knight at the moment.

Ofcourse, the only issue is that sub skills may have limited use on NMs, haven't exactly tried to use a subbed absorb spell on an NM yet, especially since it puts an Archer like me in danger range.

I love the armory system, I'd hate to be restricted to cookie cutter classes unless these classes were enjoyable to play and I could still make use of my learned skills in the past. The beauty of this game is that no effort goes to waste at all.
