As a new player, running through the Praetorium dungeon was the worst

I would have been angry too but these that particular dungeon design doesn't work very well and the devs stopped using it, thankfully.

I tend to skip cutscenes in dungeons as I don't like to waste everyone's time. However, I'd never kick someone for wanting to watch, I'd just wait for them, then move on. If you go to your inn room and click on the book there you should be able to watch most cut scenes.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with this, it may help to find a friend or two or an fc or linkshell to run with on things like praetorium.

Also one asshole at the end decided that allowing people to watch a few lengthy cutscenes wasn't part of his agenda so he typed up a big paragraph which I'm pretty sure included key story points and spoilers from both Heavensward and Stormblood. So now before I've even gotten around to buying the Stormblood expansion, there are a few things I now know beforehand which pisses me off...

This is the really messed up portion of the story. For better or worse, at this point in the game you are not going to get an ARR MSQ run where they will all wait for you to watch CSs. In the groups I've been in, they have always let the new player watch CSs while the main group runs ahead. It's not ideal, but it's middle ground for the two groups.

But yeah, to spoil future story? That's just a jerk move all around. :/

Having a terrible experience in these two was partly why I ended up joining the forums, funnily enough. I was so angry and confused by the whole thing that I came here to see if others were having the same problem when I started playing a handful of months ago.

Since then, I'm happy to report that the same problems haven't come up again (thanks to SE doing away with this particular structure in end-game content) and that I always insist new people are allowed the opportunity to experience the CS's/given time to catch up whenever I get Q'd into them. I'm sorry you had to encounter the ridiculous way some older players act in those two.

If you want to run the instances with CS's and all the fights, please just let me know! I'd be happy to make a cross world PF with a couple of my free company friends to take you through them without any dickery involved. They're absolutely worth experiencing in full and I'm only sorry you didn't get to the first time around. =}

I totally agree. Back in the ARR days I had to do 4 times the Praetorium in order to fully experience the cinematics and boss fights. I got kind of sick of people rushing me. It was the end of the game for Christ sake! Some people were absolute assholes, so I kinda opted to be one to. On the second run, I started the dungeon and did nothing but seeing the cinematics, I got kicked out while they were fighting Gaius van Baelsar. Third time... got to see all the cinematics!!! Lucky me! Fourth time, got to fight all the bosses.

You know what's more annoying? First time in any dungeon, I am that polite and skip the cutscene, since you can rewatch them in the inn. Everybody else is watching em, I stand there 3+ minutes waiting lol.

Yeah, no. A new person gives you a pretty hefty tomestone bonus. So you can suck up the two minutes it takes if they want to watch boss cut scenes. The only reason Praetorium and Castrum are the exception for most is due to the sheer length. Two minutes is reasonable; thirty less so.

You are correct. Yesterday, I was the MT and I saw someone's name as Viewing Cutscene. So, I stood there to wait and said "Someone is new and is watching the cutscene." Well, the OT went and pulled the boss. So, I guess that even when I am willing to wait, I am not allowed to.

Later on in that pug, the dragoon started to pull to force me to tank and not wait.

i hear you. As a healer i had just unlocked Kugane Castle last week. The last boss was awesome. However, as I was watching the cutscene I saw the "this room will be sealed in 15 minutes."

I think it is inconsiderate for new dungeon folks as well

Personally, I would have let them crash and burn while I watched my CS; which I hope you did. If you're watching a CS (takes less than 2 min), as a new player in the newer dungeons, and the tank and dps go blazing in they deserve to eat it and die.

This has been an ongoing problem since the start of ARR, but to go and spoil the story of HW and SB just because he couldn't finish his run in a world record time is a big douche move, you could try and report him for that. Sadly you would probably not remember his name at this point.

I'm sorry to hear that OP and I hope your future dungeon runs get better.

They really should take a look at these and make some changes to the design. I never hear anything good from people who are legitimately new to them, and I know I'm not the only one who never does the roulette because the rewards are meh and those two are the only thing in it. If they broke it up into dungeons, trials, and cutscenes that match the rest of the game, new people could get it done a lot more easily and people helping wouldn't hate it so much. I get the feeling they don't like adjusting old content because it involves using resources on something that doesn't make money, but they should really consider it in this case.

If any new players end up reading this, for the time being I would suggest creating a group in the Party Finder instead. It might (or might not depending on role) take longer to fill out, but you can create a party across your data center specifically stating that you want to watch the cutscenes or whatever else. If I see entries like this I tend to join in, even though I avoid the duty finder version, and there are both others like me, nicer people still, and even other new players who might join. It's not great, but it's generally the best option with what we've got.
