Don't like DPS queue time? Roll a tank or healer!

I don't know if this is something that is endemic to the "ME" generation, but I hear and see a whole lot of people complaining about the DPS queue times. So this is addressed to you hypothetical "Me Me Me!" people:

1. Join a Free Company
2. Make Friends
3. Have a conversation about taking turns playing a Tank or Healer class
4. Shorten DPS queue times for yourself and your friends
5. Shorten DPS queue times for the entire community (if queue with less than 4)
6. Participate in a Gaming Community

I prefer DPS. But I also play MMOs because I like the sense of community and social interaction. If I wanted instant gratification without the need to fill social roles, I'd play a single player game. So the first class I'm leveling in Stormblood is a tank. That doesn't make me better than you hypothetical "Me Me Me!" people. But I can at least say that I don't have problems with queue times.

But the thing I geniunely dislike about MMO communities is the lack of caring by other players. This is how things go down...

If I volunteer my time to help someone, I become that person's first contact to do -everything-, if not -all- content. Despite any other friends I may have in the game. Some people are extremely abusive about this prospect and I even have to deal with it outside the game. Millennials are the most impatient entitled people ever, and if you don't give them what they want, then they passively aggressively threaten to harm you, your friends or themselves to try and guilt you into helping. "Gamers" especially are prone to this insane demand that -someone else- fix something for them. Not they fix it themselves, but someone else is clearly responsible for this state of being.

The answer is in front of everyone's face. If you do not like the DPS queues, roll a tank or healer. If you don't like getting shouted down for being a bad healer/tank, then don't roll one, and wait your turn in the queue, or find some reasonable friends. In most cases there are people who casually will help if they are available, but don't want to be married to your schedule.

I thought the suggestion was common sense, too. But evidently any suggestion that you should consider other players when playing a MULTI-player game is toxic. This game seems to attract a lot of "Don't tell me how to play!" players who get upset when you make suggestions. And that's pretty unfortunate, considering that a suggestion is optional, not mandatory. And it's pretty strange that anyone would get so upset about something that is optional.

I love tanking. I almost always tank in group content and on the rare occasions that I don't, I usually heal. That being said, the biggest turn off from tanking/healing for me is not the tank changes or the shiny new SB dps classes or mechanics in any of the dungeons. It's the people I get stuck with in DF. Probably 95% of the time most of my groups are fine or even pleasant, but that other 5% is a swirling hellhole of toxicity that drives me to lose all faith in humanity. I really don't understand the reasoning of people who wait in the queue for nearly an hour just to spend 20-30 minutes treating everyone in their group like shit. And it's most often directed at the tank and/or healer. If a tank pulls too much or too little, goes too fast or too slow, skips something or doesn't skip it; you know you are going to catch hell for it. Most of the time I just suck it up and deal with it because after tanking in various MMOs for the last ten years or so, I'm pretty desensitized. But some days are just particularly bad and reach a point where I frankly just don't want to deal with other people's shit. That's when I go and play my RDM.

Most of the stuff you're pointing out here is experienced through the duty finder. I've experienced it too. It's frustrating. And that's why I suggested that folks form groups from within their free company. I've basically been running Roulettes for my FC every day since the launch of SB. And it's been fun. I haven't had to sit in a queue for an hour. And neither have they.

Bear in mind that most tanks/healers (but not all) are thoroughly annoyed by the tank/healer changes, plus the fact they released 2 hype as heck jobs, and you can understand why people would go to DPS. I think people underestimated how many people would play RDM/SAM, that much is true, but what about players that thoroughly hate tanks/healers and everything that comes with them? What about the players who are less than perfect and get abuse hurled at them for it as a tank/healer (which is much easier to hide as a DPS btw due to the rules surrounding parsers), and yes that DOES happen? Tank/healer roles put you more in the centre and if anything goes wrong, even if it isn't your fault, you'll usually get blamed. As for myself, I love the paladin changes (though agree they need to change things because PLD is godmode compared to WAR/DRK atm, but that's a discussion for another topic), as I feel the level 70 move creates the true archetype of player I want to be, but most people hate them. Should they be punished for SE's laughable attempt at "balancing"? Why should they have to suffer? While your suggestions are good for some people, they come off in a very derogotary manner because of your opening paragraph and in all honesty, I can understand why people will have a beef with you.

You're right. You can't tank and be a fragile snowflake. Lots of people will criticize you for not playing the way they want, or playing the way they think you should play. Tanks receive lots of abuse. And if you're a fragile snowflake, you'll get incredibly frustrated and melt under the scrutiny.

But it would be a false dilemma to suggest that it's a choice between two bad options: Either queue as DPS (and get frustrated with the long queue times) or queue as Tank (and get frustrated with the abuse). Because there are other options. I suggested one option: queue as a tank with folks in your free company. But that's just a suggestion. I imagine there might even be better suggestions and options.

I'm sorry, but I don't think people playing what they enjoy has anything to do with generational divides. By all means, tell people to stop complaining, but why would you bring in something totally irrelevant to that especially as a means to insult them for not playing tanks/heals?

Considering your PVP Topic where you are all about ME!ME!ME!, you are quite a hypcrite not to mention what Tank runs around Level 68 with level 60 Gear? This means that you actually do only PVP and just act for your own fun. Or you do not care a bit about the healer in the group. Yes but the other people are about ME!.

Stormblood could have lauched with 2 dps, (sam and red mage) and 10 brand new tank classes. DPS qeues would still be exactly the same..

Dark did NOTHING for queue times. it did nothing for the tank population as a whole. virtually all the people that picked up dark were people that were either pld or war in arr. the overall tanking population was the same..

thats not true the 1 month or so of HW was dps heaven , instant queues for leveling DR and trials :3 it was awesome

PS: This is why I won't touch the mentor system in FFXIV. Having being the "go to person" to get through certain content in a certain MMO until a patch removed the need of my services for that part of their main storyline, it was a personal kind of hell doing it for free. As soon as you log into the game you'd get flooded with 100's of messages demanding help.

If someone's threatening to harm you or themselves, you should report them to the proper people. Idk what calling them names will accomplish.

You have no idea what I've been through. People do not know personal boundaries in a MMO's ends at THIS MMO.
