It's in the very first OP. Now because SE didn't mention any end day for transferring, I went on vacation without worries thinking I can just join when I'm back.. specifically. Not sure how you missed it. Sure, the actual post is 'from a friend', but yeah.
Reminds me of all the "clear for a friend" partyfinders.
Ahahahahah...!
Maybe you want to check it a third time, because clearly you missed the part we quoted, it's not something we just came up with. If pointing out how much of special treatment the OP's friend wanted, because he went on vacation, and then blaming SE afterwards, makes us a total ass, I am very grateful and will happily accept the reward.
The hostility is really uncalled for, so yes, ass.Maybe you want to check it a third time, because clearly you missed the part we quoted, it's not something we just came up with. It's not a strange thing to think, "Oh, SE hasn't put a deadline for transfers to these servers. I'm on vacation, so I won't stress about it and just transfer when I get back."
Hold on now.
Maybe OP's friend was already ON vacation before he had to the chance to transfer?
That would mean, he had no way of getting there anyways.
You gotta admit Omega got full hella fast right when transfers opened.
He says "I went on vacation" people thinking he already knew
or maybe he was already on vacation and figured he return without problem.
Needs clarification really.
It's a crappy situation, they really don't wanna have another Balmung server.
EDIT: Nevermind, they still allow new characters but not transfer. Eek, what a mess lol.

It would've been nice if Square implemented the guild transfer system that Blizzard brought into WoW before making these transfer benefits.
My sympathies to you. This should have been managed much more efficiently. I doubt the situation will be remedied anytime soon, sadly =/
Because SE is retarded. It's actually a piece of evidence that suggests SE doesn't really have solid 'account-level' infrastructure. There are other tell-tale ones, too, like Black List / Friend List entries not being account-based, or Housing not being limited by account. Why on earth they'd have designed the game this way, I cannot say, but there are several large headaches going back years that would appear to be easily solved by account-level controls. This is just one of the latest.
Edit for Additional Response:
Wow, really? F*cking ridiculous. It sucks, but that was your personal decision. There's not one company in the world, that offers ViP service for people that decide, that one day they might or might not want to transfer somewhere. Omega was opened with the early access, you did have enough time prior to your vacation to do the transfer, or ask your friends to wait for you. But since your friends didn't waited, why would SE wait or email you personally to ask if you would like to still transfer, before they are temporary closing the transfer of an overpopulated server. There was a reason they opened that other EU server, to avoid problems we have seen with Balmung and Gilgamesh. You had your chance but decided to ignore it.
Let's review the past few months. First, SE stupidly relocated their NA data centre across an entire continent, which created unnecessary latency strain on many 'fringe' location players, such as those in the EU. Had they moved it to a central location like Chicago, Dallas, or even Denver, the strain on EU players wouldn't have been so severe. To compensate for this decision, they added Omega to the Chaos Data Center and opened up transfers - fine and dandy, so far. But they made two more mistakes before this process started: (1) ignored the blatant need for a "Free Company Transfer" system, and (2) obviously whiffed on their estimates of how many people would seek to migrate to the Chaos Data Center (numbers likely boosted by East Coast players who are roughly between Chaos and the new California location).
The net result of all this is that the server filled up quickly, and FC members got lost in the shuffle. This was bound to happen from the start, because SE barely paused to think about what they were doing and the problems it would create. They took the easy way out.
So, no, the OP doesn't appear to be expecting "VIP" treatment or anything else in your hyperbolic nonsense. Rather, they seem to be frustrated that the transfer process wasn't reasonably thought-out. They seem frustrated that the transfer window closed before character creation even opened up, and wasn't reopened promptly when new characters could be created. They seem frustrated that they were screwed over socially because they took a vacation. None of those frustrations are unreasonable, and declaring that the situation is the OP's own fault is ridiculous.

No, the decision to add Omega to the Chaos data center had nothing at all to do with the relocation of the NA data centres. Omega was added because all the EU servers were getting full - and unlike the other data centres, there were no really small servers in Chaos - they were all of about equal size. Hence adding a new server instead of labeleing some as preferred.Let's review the past few months. Some people have a serious "SE is never wrong" syndrome. It's sad that legitimate feedback is drowned among people blaming the OP for a situation he/she didn't cause. The server isn't full. Get it through your heads. There is no reason to close transfers. The only things the OP was guilty of were having friends they wanted to play with and trusting that interactions with Square Enix would go smoothly and transparently.
Why is Square Enix closing transfers (1) without warning, (2) after encouraging people to move servers - a risky thing to do at any time if you want to move with friends - and (3) while still allowing new characters to be created? And yet without giving any explanation. It's bad customer service no matter how you try to spin it.
Proof that new characters are allowed, this is me 5 minutes ago:

Don't even need access to the game just need a computer or even just a smart phone and able to do the transfer. Transfer fall into the it a privilege not a right category especially if the transfers were free.
