Yes, you can. Get Tales of Adventure: Heavensward and Tales of Adventure: One <job> Journey, and give both of those to one of your characters. That character can start at 60 with Stormblood content where your friends are, while your other character starts at 1 and can go through the Realm Reborn and Heavensward storylines at your own pace.
