New Player - Job Level Boost

I'm new to the game having been suckered in by my friends all playing Stormblood, I have the game, both expansions and a GLA at level 25.

I'd like to speed up the process so I can join with them but I'm not sure which of the Job Level Boosts I need to achieve this.

There are 2 available (both are the same price), one of them seems to complete your MSQ progress, whereas the other seems to clear your job quests and put you at level 60 for your selected job.

In short, do I need both of these to be able to begin the Stormblood content and level up beyond 60?

If you want to go to Stormblood with a level 60 job right now, you need both boosts.

As you said, one boosts a specific job at level 60, gives a bit of gear and completes all job quests till then.
The other only completes the MSQ and all nessecery sidequests to beginn directly with the stormblood content.

Alright, fair enough. Thanks for the swift reply.

Question 2 then, if I buy the one for completion of the MSQ, does that unlock all associated duties from Realm Reborn and Heavensward? How long would it take me to level up my job to level 60?

I'm having fun with the group based stuff but the MSQ (for the most part) has been a little tedious so far.

If you're running a tank, and you understand your kit well enough to not have any serious issues and can get through dungeons easy enough, you'd probably get there in a couple weeks at most. Tanks have little to not wait time for getting into dungeons, and are near always in high demand, providing an extra exp boost when you queue into the roulette (set yourself to "Join in Progress" to probably speed things up even more).

The boost does unlock everything MSQ related, so you could literally just sit there spamming roulettes with the occasional break for job quests.

I don't think I've been struggling so far, although I don't do great at tanking large numbers of enemies.

I'm in two minds as to whether it's necessary, if LunaFaye is saying I could be at level 60 within a week. Does the MSQ get any more entertaining? Most of it seems to be go talk to this guy, then go talk to this guy. The fighting is few and far between.

It starts to feel more like a Final Fantasy game after you beat a level 35 boss. Otherwise early ARR is just generic boar butt tier questing. Arguably it gets the FF feel during HW but the context to why you do the things in HW you're doing is better if you know what happened in ARR prior.

OK then, I'll persevere with it for now.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!

Go to Stormblood and enjoy the story

    Hi there!

I am a new player in FF XIV.

I understand that I have to buy the job level boost and the MSQ completion to get directly to Stormblood.

The question is: I have two characters. If I purchase these items for one of my characters, can I enjoy A Realm Reborn and Heavensword's story with the other charater?

I want to discover all the secrets of Eorzea, but I would like to join to my friends in Stormblood too.

Most of the opinions ive heard is that the story gets better and better as you go. This tends to start in earnest for most around patch 2.3/2.4 worth of story quests. It continues climbing through the dragonsong story which has a pretty nice payoff, and the current stormblood storyline is excellent. Good villians, clear motivation, some satisfying fights. You still have "do these 3 tasks to earn the trust of soandso" type quests, but the war-related story of stormblood does lend itself to a lot of skirmishes. Edit: Forgot to add this. While the story keeps getting better, it also loops back and references itself a decent amount. If you were to skip quest A, it wouldnt mean as much later on when you deal with event B.

And as Luna said, you can get the levels fairly quickly. But assuming you read fairly fast, the quests will fly by too. Tank gets short ques for all the dungeons and trials you must face, so if you play a normal amount i could see you being caught up a month from now.

It does unlock all duties from ARR and HW, but you will have to manually unlock all Primal extremes and Raids(sidequests). People farm these often for glamour and mounts. As far as MSQ it is very tedious and the amount of MSQ's in ARR AND HW is more like 250. Like you said most are go talk to this guy, deliver this thing get a bunch of XP then eventually run a dungeon or fight some enemies. In short i bought both boosts because i know how tedious the MSQ is.
