    Job Boost Question

    Hi All

Playing and enjoying my Thaumaturge but i would like a few extra spells to help me, namely Cure and Protect, which is Conjurer, i don't want to delve full scale into a new job, id rather complete the journey i'm on.

So my question is, if i bought one of the Tales of Adventure for my current Character, changed her job into a Conjurer which would put me at a level 1 Conjurer, used the item to take that to level 50, if i then went back to my Thaumaturge job at level 29 (current level) could i continue playing that on the Main Scenario Quest all the way up to whatever level i want to get to?

I'm just unclear if using that item stops you doing the MSQ on another other job...

    Ta!

The job boost doesn't stop you from anything MSQ related.
But be careful, you won't be able to use conjurer skills as thaumaturg.

Sounds like you might be misreading several things. First point, job boost potions level the appropriate job to 60, not 50 (may have been a typo on your part). But you are correct, the job boost potion would not affect any of your story progress, and you could continue leveling THM into BLM no troubles.

More important point though, is the cross class skills have been removed. Leveling CNJ will do you no good for gaining any CNJ skills on THM. You now have a list of role abilities to choose from. You do not get any Protect, but that's largely unnecessary for open world content; the mitigation is minimal, and you should be more than capable of burning things down before they pose any real threat (if you're having any particular trouble, you may need to be looking at upgrading gear, understanding your available skills [you've still got Sleep available] or potentially calling on your chocobo to fight for a little extra assistance).
Your only available self healing ability will be Drain, which should suffice in most cases to keep you alive and able to finish any particular mob. Still completely possible to be overwhelmed, but that's something Cure/Protect never would've helped with anyway.

Ok then, i am glad i asked before i did anything!

I was doing some reading and i guess i read old stuff or as you are more than probably correct misread everything, i was reading in that i could level different jobs and use some of those abilities (not all, only some it seems) on other classes. I think the one i actually read was an Archer using some healing skills from a Mage or something.

That seems quite powerful but maybe i really do need to read more, still very new as you can tell!

    Thanks for all the feedback.

Before the expansion there was a system called "cross class".
There you could use some specific skills from classes you have leveld on other classes, for jobs the range of classes they can draw skills was very limited and more focused on their role.

Since the expansion the "cross class" system is removed and we got a "role skill" system.
There you will get skillpool apropiate to all classes/jobs of a specific role, from which you can draw skills. The skillspools are different for each role (tank, melee, ranged, magic and healer).

For example before the expansion as Paladin you could draw skills from Conjurer like Cure, Protect or Stoneskin, cause Conjurer was one of the specific cross classes for Paladin.
Now Paladin can only draw from the role skill pool for tanks, which are including vital skills like Provoke, stuns, silences or simple defensive cooldowns.

Well, thanks Legion, that explains it way better than i could have read!

I presume for the "Role Skill" you have to level the other Jobs to use them?

Role skills are all available for your role. No other jobs ever need to be leveled for any skills available on the job you're playing.

They've effectively made it so that if THM/BLM is the only job you ever want to play, you never need to change from it and everything is still available to you.

If you bring up the... actions? menu, you can see what role abilities youve already learned and which ones are still coming at higher levels. Using a keyboard and the default keybinds, press the "P" button to bring up this menu. It has tabs for your class skills, your traits, any job related skills, and the Role Skills which are still fairly new. Role skills are automatically given at certain levels, and equipping the right ones can make certain fights/situations much easier.

You just came across some outdated information, which isn't that surprising since it's only recently become outdated.

Now additional classes no longer help you with combat, that's based solely on the class or job you're on at the moment. The cross-class skill system still remains in place for crafting and gathering classes, so it's not entirely gone, but it no longer applies to disciples of war or magic.
