Actually you were if you got reported after bragging (same deal about Windower), as you're tampering with game data which is against ToS (of any company, some aren't strict on it but you CAN get banned for it.)
This is why updates and file checks on POL had a habit of replacing custom .dats because they can check the hash of your dats.
Injecting anything into a game not from the company can result in bans/prosecution (depending on what it's doing) but graphical tweaks and etc companies aren't strict about.

Ignoring the fact that's illegal in some places still as of today, I don't see what execution has to do with anything? Unless game companies have decided you can tamper with the data all you want in the past 10 years it's been a pretty big part of ToS's to not tamper with game data by injection method, especially MMORPGs -- Thus why some games have built in mod support.
