The issue is that I wager developers have a much less nuanced understanding of what constitutes getting 'punished by mechanics', than the players who have hundreds more hours of experience compared to them, and also the kind of practical knowledge you can only get seeing things firsthand.

Like I can imagine someone looking at dragoon and going "Oh their jumps mean they must have superior mobility, so they'll have an easier time handling mechanics than the other melee" and consider that a valid reason to give them lower DPS. When in actual fact as players you know very well that it's outweighed by BotD being extremely punishing, while ninjas in contrast have one of the most lenient rotations in the game.

Unfortunately the latter is not as easy to understand without many hours of play, it's because of blind spots like that that imbalances can stick around for some time before finally being noticed.

Didn't they also say something to the effect of "aaah, SAM is fine, for you see, DRG brings party utility that makes its damage contribution up to par"?
That's a bit worrying, as the 5k parses of each EX primal we have to work with heavily suggest otherwise- it also compounds this issue that one of the prime recipients of DRG's piercing debuff, MCH, is both underpowered and slightly undesired atm.
Oh my. My heart goes out to you, my DRG and MCH brothers and sisters x)

Exactly this. It's not really a buff to a BRD's DPS. It's a buff to their utility, and a small one at that. We still don't get the benefit of the 2% crit bonus our songs give, but honestly Troubadour should have been of the design to buff all party members and the bard who casts it from the get-go. It's like: "Here, party! Increased physical damage resistance for all of you! And let me Battle Voice it as well to augment the effects! Now you have more protection! Well, except for me, so healers please give me some love! ;_;" I can live with the 2% crit buff not applying to the bard singing the song; it's a fair trade-off for our songs not penalizing our damage, but Troubadour initially having no effect on the bard casting it was a dumb idea.

I agree MCH needs attention desperately, and hopefully that will come with 4.05 when more adjustments are released.

Hell, my main is PLD since 2.0 with DRG as secondary in HW, and these changes to DRG make me weep.

Well, except that BV doesn't increase the effects of Troubadour on the party and just gives them a buff to Direct Hit chance (a buff we don't the last time I checked).

Please don't be a troll. It's clear upon reflection this was a needed fix and an easy one to implement. In addition, it's a nerf. We'll see bigger changes in 7.05.

I'm sorry but.. are most of you idiots? You call out the lack of any balance changes when it clearly states balance changes will be made in two weeks including potential changes to mechanics. You all need to chill out!

Potential changes coming in two weeks are cold comfort as from what we've seen in the notes and from Yoshida's remarks, the main issues that players, who are arguably spending more time with said jobs out in the field than the devs, have not really been noticed or addressed. So, quite frankly, if all you have to bring to this discussion is naught but insults or disparaging remarks, you are not contributing anything of worth.

Yeah it was a needed fix. But there are other classes that need "fixing" more than NIN imo. And yeah I realized it's a nerf. But NIN was in a good spot already (both DPS & utility wise)
Then again, this was more of a hotfix rather than a balance update. And yeah, I guess we will have to wait and see till the actual balance patch comes.

I played war in 2.0 and was unwanted in content, I played monk in 3.0 and got the same shit.

Guess its time to play according to popularity instead of what i like. Lets go samurai.
